I love my Quest 4D GTXs, they fit me like a glove....but I get one season out of them before I start getting leaks. I put a lot of miles on them during that season, but do not think enough to wear through the gor-tex. I run the Lowa boots which fit a little bit different, but they last longer. I...
I have tried many of the harnesses out there and my favorite is the Kuiu. I backpack hunt and horseback hunt. The harness protects the glass and keeps it from bouncing when on horseback. I like how adjustable it is as well. Hope that helps.
Under layer tops: Firstlite. I have about 6 tops of different thickness, including the Sawtooth top. The rest is Kuiu, Attack pants, Guide jacket, 210 merino zip-off thermals, the Superdown jacket. I carry a set of FL rain gear in my pack. I wear Darn tough socks and some Kuiu socks. I wear...
I love the attacks. They are outstanding! I bought solids after such great experiences with them so that I can wear them all the time. I spend most of October in the Idaho mountains.
I have had 5 pair of various FL wool underwear. I wore a hole in all of them with minimal hiking. I sent them back to FL and they replaced them. Shortly there after, those also wore holes in the crotch. I have a pair of Smartwool, they have not shown any sign of wear. Now I will only buy...
I used the Pop up 18 last year for elk. I went in for 3 days. It is a great pack! I packed in my camp and then took the load lifters down and used it as a day pack. Very low profile and great in-between the trees. I hauled out elk quarters with it as well. The 28 is even bigger! The load shelf...
I bought and used the pop up 18 for deer and elk this year. I used it as a day pack and several days on a horse. I loved it. I kept rain gear, down jacket, kill kit and food in it. I hauled elk quarters in it as well. I was very comfortable to use and never felt it pulling on my shoulders. I...
I only have the grizzlies and yes, they have the wrist strap. Great feature that I have used a lot! Mostly, I use the Kuiu guide glove with merino liner. When it gets cold, grizzly!
absolutely! I take rib meat, neck meat, every bit of meat I can take, I do! A lot of it goes to grind, but my kids love it! One or two extra trips hauling out meat, yes it is worth it. I have not bought red meat in 23 years, just hunted for it and my kids now do the same. If you are not willing...
I use the Salomons for general hunting in the mountains, then when I have to pack heavy, Lowa Hunter GTX or Kenetrek. I have the same thing happen, when I am hunting, the Salomons are outstanding, then if I start hauling meat or carry a very heavy pack, my feet and arches start to hurt. With...
