    Howa Superlite 308win Field Evaluation

He may just have a gift for actually subjecting the products to hard use rather than gently fondling it in his living room and firing a box of single fed ammo on a flat range before proclaiming that it has "excellent fit and finish and accuracy that is more than good enough for hunting."

    Howa Superlite 308win Field Evaluation

Well, that MRC doesn't look so bad by way of comparison now ;-). I am curious to see if the inlet is borked... but, since it looks like you're gonna need to spend some time cleaning up the stock anyway, I am sure you can attend to anything that's not too significantly out of whack.

Tikka trigger.. how light is too light?

I like around 1.5 lbs to 2 lbs for most any rifle, most any purpose. If trigger feel is an issue (for whatever reason) go heavy enough that you can feel the trigger before you break the trigger. I find heavier pull weight more palatable on a 2-stage; they tend to feel more like the 2nd stage...

    March FX 1.5-15x42mm Q&A

If I could somehow get the March FX 1.5-15x42 and the NF ATACR 4-16x42 to have a love child... boy, that would be awesome. Hell, I'd even take a THLR mod2 over a DR design.

March FX 4.5-28x FFP Field Eval Q&A

That's the case with a set I have as well - definitely a slight interference fit, requires a bit of effort to "seat" the tube in the rings and/or rotate the tube to align it. I suppose I need to get on board with the UM rings... or just buy more Seekins, Posi-lign, Mk4, etc.

Montana Rifle Co. Junction 308Win Field Evaluation

You may not be wrong.... but, I don't need mass market changes. We as a community will win HUGE if a handful or artisans take their craft seriously. If the rest of the folks out there have an a ha moment and it moves the larger market - even better. A true Pre-64 homage is worth doing right...

Did you end up swapping the rings out?

    March FX 1.5-15x42mm Q&A

It's good to see the initial results on reliability/durability. That really is the first consideration at any price point, but especially this level. I love that March pushes the envelope on zoom range and optical design, but it is important to call out the IQ compromises this entails. I'm...

Montana Rifle Co. Junction 308Win Field Evaluation

I'm with @SDHNTR on this... it's my main gripe with production rifles as a category: everyone is selling you a kit gun, but lots of folks are charging you "turnkey" prices. In an age where you can buy the bits for less than $2k and put it together yourself, I think it's reasonable to insist...

Montana Rifle Co. Junction 308Win Field Evaluation

A new production M70 is a pre-64 homage marred only by a "new and improved" bolt on trigger unit. It's expensive, but not as expensive as this gun. The wood on the new production Win M70 is nicer that what the photos show here too, but it doesn't have embedded MLOK.

New Winchester Model 70 Super Grades. Good?

The new barrel fixed the issues entirely. It is easy to say in retrospect that it was ALL down to the barrel. I went through the "usual" trouble shooting issues (variety of ammo, lapped lugs, lapped barrel/throat, bedding). The move from the factory barrel to a Bartlein was the only thing...

New Winchester Model 70 Super Grades. Good?

A sister of the one I owned... and still damn good looking. I ended up dropping a Bartlein CF in mine. It was actually pretty easy to open up the barrel channel for the Sendero profile. To be honest, I just vastly prefer the look of the factory blue... and the maple. Ergonomics aside, the...

New Winchester Model 70 Super Grades. Good?

I would guess yes - traditional .270 stuff up to 150 grains wouldn't be an issue. If you want to load 170-180 grain stuff, you're gonna end up in the powder. Might matter to you, might not. If you throw a ruler/mic set on it when you get one in hand, you'll be able to check pretty easily.

New Winchester Model 70 Super Grades. Good?

I did rebarrel my M70 (with a Bartlein), changed the trigger to a Timney, and swapped the stock (to a McMillan). I've said elsewhere that it got the gun to shoot, but that killed everything I loved about it. The bluing was nice, the stock was gorgeous (though the LOP was comically long). The...

New Winchester Model 70 Super Grades. Good?

I briefly owned a M70 Supregrade Maple in .30-06 of roughly 2018 vintage. Absolutely beautiful gun, but it didn't shoot worth a damn. The action was also on the rough/sloppy side. That said, if you guaranteed me I would get one that actually shoots, I'd buy another because they're gorgeous...
