Thanks for the input. Yeah, the plan for now is to put it on an MDT hunt chassis and I would use it primarily for training out 800 yds and the occasional mule deer backpack hunt.
Are Remington 700 action still worth fixing up these days, or should I just buy a custom?
I've got two old Rem. actions in my gun safe just taking up space. I've been tossing around the idea of sending one to a smith to get trued up for a 6.5prc training rifle build. Not into another Tikka...
Personally, I'm going to wait to see what the 7 PRC looks like before I build another 7mm. I can wait a year; already have plenty of rifles.
If I couldn't wait I would be doing the SAUM over the 280ai. Medium action, 22" barrel.
A reliable gunsmith told me a couple weeks back that Hornady has plans to introduce their version of a 7 PRC within the year. Apparently he works with them from time to time so I would consider him a reliable source.
I asked him the same exact question about the 280ai and SAUM and he...
I've been running Scarpa Mont Blanc Pro Gtx on my late season hunts. I really like them. They have held up quite well for me, they spent a week in some pretty deep snow without any problems. Much more comfortable than the Nepal's and really not even that bad hiking flat ground. I would consider...
@ntrlbrnhunter what Scarpas and Las Sportivas have you had good luck with?
I really like the Scarpa Zodiac GTX for a warm season boot, very comfortable for my feet. But I found out they are not waterproof as Scarpa states.
We also had a similar experience last fall in Idaho. Tried out some new country, encountered wolf, moose and plenty of elk but very limited deer. Back at it again this fall...
Looking for to acquire a lightweight backpack hunting rifle, mainly for mule deer hunting. I already have a great 7mag, but it weighs 8 and 1/2 lb fully loaded and I figure I can always use another rifle.
I've been looking hard at Tikka; either have a 6.5 PRC built or get an off the shelf 6.5...
Trango TRK GTX's are my go to for work and hiking, I wear them 6 days a week. A pair will last me about 8 months, then I switch to Kenatreks for the winter months.
They fit my feet great, and I have sensitive feet when it comes to boot fitment. They are worth the money for me. You can usually...
I've always been a big fan of the mountain extremes, thought the soles seam to wear rather fast for me. Recently I have been an even bigger fan of the La Sportivia Nepal Cubes. They are a true mountaineering style boot. They work great in the nasty steep terrain and fit well too.
