Alaskan Sheep Hunt Pack List. 14 days, self supported.

You guys make decent points but I would argue that there are a lot of things that would ruin that hunt but most likely it would be packing too much weight and not being prepared in some way. Also it takes 2 rounds to regain your zero. If you packed targets…I have never heard of anyone packing...

Alaskan Sheep Hunt Pack List. 14 days, self supported.

That’s way too much ammo to carry. You need 5 rounds max in my opinion. You are shooting a sheep. Not going to war with the sheep. Goretex boots will be a disadvantage in august. It’s a good way to get stinky trench foot and blisters when your boots get wet from boggy ground or sweat and never...

    Critique my Food List

When I hike hard I don’t get too wrapped around the axle with specific nutrients. Forget about getting optimal protein and all of that. The main problem is just getting enough calories. If you don’t focus on this you will run a huge calorie deficit and want to drop dead by the end of the trip...

    Critique my Food List

Pre packaged backpacking foods are not worth it in my opinion. I feel better and get more calories by just making my meals out of dry ingredients from wal mart and bulk barn. For example a knorr or sidekick with dehydrated vegetables, onions and pepperoni. Cheap as hell and you get to spike the...

Nice work! What is this using for a frame?

    Solid fuel stove

I will also say that if you and your brother cook more than 10 total meals esbit is no longer a weight saving option. Isobutane, by itself gets many more boils per ounce than esbit. After 10-12 meals a light isobutane stove will be the lighter option. The issue is that isobutane stoves...

    Solid fuel stove

If I was serious about not using canister fuels again I would get a trail designs Ti Tri system. Being in bad fire territory and with park rules, freezing temperatures and all I am stuck owning many systems haha

What packs are all you gram weenies using?

Seems like the appropriate place to post this. I was wondering what weight obsessed hunters use for backpacks. I myself am weight obsessed and normally hike with around a 10lb base weight. For hunting I use a osprey xeineth 88 with the lid removed. I’m not really stoked on it. I feel that a...

    Solid fuel stove

I use the esbit one with the little wings for a pot support. It weighs about a half ounce. Use a disposable aluminum tray (for cooking) that fits the stove and my pot inside. I cut them in half and use them as a wind screen/ground protection. The system is Lite AF and very quiet. The cons...

Nalgene bottle or Hydration Bladder or Both?

The only use I have for a nalgene is in freezing temperatures where I carry it upside down so the bottom of the bottle freezes and it’s still usable. At night you can put boiling water into it to help warm you up.

    Ultralight Camp Set up

1.2L for sure. I bring a scotch brite pad for cleaning and it makes things easy. If you find yourself doing a lot of cold trips a inverted canister stove works good just below freezing where the upright canister stoves perform poorly.

    Overrated Gear

Taiga out of Vancouver Canada makes strong ones with buckles that are easily replaced. Might be your boot but also I have broken a few straps on rocky ground (mountain slopes and faces). Most likely would be better off not wearing gaiters for the majority of your hike/hunt anyway.

    Overrated Gear

Gaiters for most backcountry use. I mean unless you have bridges or stop to change into a complete water crossing setup (ridiculous in my area) every time you cross a creek. I use them in the winter but every other time of year they just keep my legs and feet wet. And as if I haven’t rocked the...
