Wow! Just read all 52 pages!
I wanna be like you guys when I grow up.

Been twice.
Firearms are usually a breeze. Just have your forms in order. Usually your PH will arrange to have someone local assist. Beware grifters in O.R. Tambo. You don’t need an escort.
Limpopo is awesome. Also hunted NW,OFS, and several others. All good. Have not hunted East Cape but...
My .375 H&H is a CZ 550 with a SB Zenith 1.5-6 X 42. German #4 Reticle. Talley QD Rings.
Been to Africa twice: Cape Buffalo + 10 other animals.
Alaska once: Bull Moose in S. Brooks
Been an absolutely awesome set up for me.

No experience in 28, but 3 years ago I hunted 2nd rifle elk in 371, just across the Blue southwest of you.
We saw more moose than elk and all were above 10K’ with 6” of snow on the ground in mid-October.
Good Luck,

ETA: Looking at the pic there might have been a little more snow than I...
Lowa Mtn Hunter Extreme GTX here.
Been to the Rockies several times for elk. Worked great!
One trip to Brooks Range for moose. Not quite as good. One thing I learned in Alaska: Your “waterproof” hunting boots aren’t!!
Waders all the way!

Congrats!
Not many people can grasp how hard it can be to kill a deer in SoCal unless they have tried.
I have tried. You beat the odds. You EARNED that deer! Congrats again!

Trad Bow or Big Boomer... I enjoy both.
But if I was in your hunting boots I’d grab my laser rangefinder and be ready to twist a turret!
Good Luck either way. Shoot a big’un!

I just finished this one.
The dude in the pic is way tougher than the image can relate. Notice that you can’t see his left foot?
He doesn’t have one. Froze and had to cut it off.
One tough Dane. Still shaking my head that he lived to write his book.

If you ever get charged by one you will change your mind in the blink of an eye, or likely die.
Trust me on this. It’s an experience you will remember for the rest of your life.
