    Flying with a long gun

Thanks the replies and opinions. MattB read the stuff for American that I saw and wondered about. The case I borrowed is 50X14X5 or so and that is over 62 but it in no way looks huge. So hopefully I can smile, comply, and get it checked in with no hassles.

    Flying with a long gun

I am flying out to turkey hunt in Utah in a few days. I've borrowed a lockable gun case from a friend. It looks like American Airlines policy is that any checked baggage bigger than 62" total (width+lenght+height) is an upcharge of $200. This gun case is longer than 62" when added all together...

    Favorite podcasts

I listen to a lot of the ones already mentioned. I recently found one called the Mountain & Prairie podcast. Mostly about the West and not much hunting in it....but a lot of conservation stuff.

Mix/Make your own Permethrin Spray - SAVE MONEY

I have done this for years. The kind I always got at CO-OP or TSC had a stronger petroleum smell to it....the Martin's 10 you buy on Amazon has NO smell....or very light. I mix it 1oz of concentrate to 19oz of water. It works great. I spray my clothes for hunting a few days before season and...

Good Turkey Vest That's Hydration Compatible

Hey don't worry about it. I basically did the same thing. I did it with paracord. It will work. It may slip from side to side in the back pouch...but should work. Thanks

Good Turkey Vest That's Hydration Compatible

That is the vest I use as well. Would love to rig it so I could carry a hydration bladder. Can you send me pics of how you did it? Thanks

Day pack with ability to pack animal out/convert to backcountry backpack

Are you referring to Stryker with a larger cargo/dry bag?

    Waterfowl Wader Recommendations

Yeah, ever since I went with the Banded Redzones....I won't go back to neoprene. Hard to move in and clammy as hell. The Redzones are fine except they have the built in boot. I wear the uninsulated waders and wear fleece wader pants and long johns. Once my Banded ones wear out I'll probably do...

Day pack with ability to pack animal out/convert to backcountry backpack

For anyone still watching this post....I bought a Kifaru frame for a good deal. So I'll be buying a kifaru pack. The stryker is a contender still. Most of my hunting will be run n gun style in TN/KY. Not a lot of overnighting. However, I do want the ability to backpack hunt out West with that...

    Waterfowl Wader Recommendations

Sounds like you are in your waders for half of the year. You got 65 days out of the Banded. How many days are you getting out of the Simms? I mostly duck hunt and waders are a necessary evil. But if I had a more comfortable option and they were easier to hike in....I might wear them for hunts...

    New member from TN

I'm not a dog man (except my duck hunting pals have a couple of labs)...when you ask about houndsman.....as in tracking bears? Coon dogs? I don't have coon hunting experience nor experience bear hunting in E TN with hounds. Although I'd love to bear hunt that way. Its a pretty insular fraternity...

Day pack with ability to pack animal out/convert to backcountry backpack

Thats good to know. Those are the two I'm thinking of. Although I need to do more research on SO and Initial Ascent too. I am leaning towards the Stryker because a hunting pal has that one and I've seen it in person. I would be an 85-90% whitetail day pack hunter. But I am doing all of my...

    Swarovski Z3 4-12x50

So I bought a used rifle (Thompson Center Icon in 270) topped with a swaro Z3 4-12X50. I know swaro glass is really good. This looks to be their budget option. How good of glass is it? What does it compare too (other brands and models). Looks like you could pick the scope up new for $800-900...

Day pack with ability to pack animal out/convert to backcountry backpack

Glad to know that you thought the 1800 was too small. The 3200 is what I'd get in EXO if I go that route. Lots of good suggestions so far. Thanks to all that have replied. When I have time I'm going to research some of the brands/systems suggested here.
