If I understand correctly, you have a dedicated iPhone for digiscoping? If so, I don't really see any negatives to the Outdoosmans. The threading is fine, so be sure not to cross-thread.

Sleeping with it takes some getting used to, though.
I spent 3 days in the Trinity Alps over this last weekend. Started in Hobo Gulch and then moved over to Virgin Creek. I saw no hobos or virgins. The only bears I saw were on the drive to/from the Virgin Creek trail head... a beautiful cinnamon sow with cubs on the way in and a black boar on the...
I'm interested, as well. I still have a bear tag, and I was considering heading up to the Trinity Alps for Thanksgiving weekend. Wondering if it's too late.
^^ This is how it's done. Energy transfer to the animal is the key. I'd keep the terminal energy above 800 ft-lbs to be safe...but the bullet must be designed to reliably expand at the associated terminal velocity.
OP, you're going to have to either chop the barrel or walk around with a 33-ish inch barrel. I'd chop it considering how well the .308 does in a short-barrel configuration. For reference, an 18" barreled .308 will cost you about 150 fps over a 26" with a 168 grain bullet.

GKPrice, I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. WRT, SAAMI specs, the chamber dimensions don't have anything to do with accuracy on there own. It's the relation between the chamber dimensions and the ammo being fired. Then we can start to talk OBT, OCW, barrel harmonics and the...
wild gypsy and 5MilesBack nailed it. Load development is the same process for custom and factory rifles. A 'smith may chamber for a certain bullet/seating depth, or use tight-chambered match reamer (probably not for hunting rifle), some will even develop a load for that rifle, but that doesn't...
That would be my guess. Same thing happens with all sorts of equipment over all manner of hobbies. I've seen it over and over within the precision rifle optic crowd. Even Schmidt & Bender and Hensoldt weren't immune.
For what it's worth, I picked up a new Razor HD 27-60x a couple months ago...
