    Glacier National Park in May

Early June is the time to hit Glacier. My wife and I visited early June two years ago and if you time it right, the Road to the Sun will only be open to bicycles while still closed to cars.

    The new kuiu

Looks a bit like Kuiu Vias had a baby with Sitka Marsh! 😁 It looks like a cool pattern, but at this point I'm not going to be chasing a new camo as I've got more than enough clothing already.

    Edit

I believe the current bobcat season is still open.....at least until Jan 1, 2020 when the new law kicks in. Might be worth it hunting bobcat one last time before it closes for good.

    Quiet/sneaky shoes

I abandoned my Crispis halfway through my hunt and instead slipped on my New Balance Minimus trail running shoes. These have a super thin Vibram sole and is flexible enough to roll each shoe into the size of a tennis ball, yet provide enough traction to not slip. If I was packing out with a...

An ok photo vs a GREAT photo of game

We spend a countless amount of time, money, and effort pursuing game, and when we finally taste success, I often times see a mediocre photo capturing what should be a timeless moment. Its a moment that may not fade from your own memory, but one where the only way of sharing is with a quality...

Offline Maps in OnX not working sometimes

The same thing kept happening to me this past archery season in California. It seemed that after 24-48 hours, my layers would disappear and I would no longer be able to see private property lines. Not only did I get the latest update, but I also re-downloaded all of my maps again only to have it...

Why Rokslide doesn’t have a fishing forum

Thanks for the complement! - but from my brief intro to hunting on land, spearfishing is EASY in comparison. Especially hunting big game with a bow The amberjack was 87 and the cubera snapper probably around 25ish. We were shore diving and didn't have a boat with ice so I gutted it in the...

Why Rokslide doesn’t have a fishing forum

Before I was a hunter I was a fisherman so I know all of the "tricks of the trade" in terms of getting a nice picture of that fish, be it a trophy or not. I see a lot of "hold outs", but next time instead of bringing the fish to the camera, bring the camera to the fish. Also, make sure the bend...

    Blacktail Antler Development and Elevation

This past weekend I hiked in 8-9 miles and saw quite a few bucks. One thing I noticed was that the bucks I spotted down low in the 1000' range were far ahead in terms of antler development compared with bucks in the 7000' range. Is this normal? Will the big bodied bucks with velvet nubs in the...

Smokin Deal on 850 Fill Puffy

Slightly off topic, but at my local California Bay Area REI, they set out a book with a sign that encouraged customers to write down what their 2017 new year aspirations were. Guess which one is mine.....hint...Its not Boys and Coachella, lol
