I would look into the interactive Idaho Trails map that can be found on a bunch of different websites. It allows you to filter motorized restricted areas. I hunted a few different road-less areas last year and killed a 4 point about 2 miles from the road. I did not hunt any wilderness. I saw...
This last winter was a bad one. No doubt about it, it affected my hunting in every spot I scouted and hunted here in Utah and up in Idaho. This thread isn't about either of those states but I am going to throw this out there. Every time something of notable significance happens, whether bad or...
People can have their opinions about whatever they choose. However it seems to me more often than not sensationalism takes over logic in most issues that are as polarizing as this one. My personal opinion is that there are other issues regarding deer herds and their health that account for a WAY...
It can be T-shirt weather or snowing in the high country in September, research layering systems that have been laid out on the internet, there is tons of information to help you get what you need to be comfortable with the temperature swings. Also If you have not read them yet, I would read...
I bring a spotter when hunting deer most of the time. If the country is just super thick and I wont be looking more than 300-500 yards all I bring is Binos. I would just bring both if I was you.
I'm going to assume that your wanting to backpack?
There are a ton of opinions about pack weight...
7 RM recoil is really not bad in my opinion from a 8.5 lb rifle. I got rid of mine because 2-3 firings from brass that was damn near impossible to find in recent history, got annoying and my barrel was shot out so I either needed a new rifle or a new barrel anyways. I love the 7mm RM and it is...
It depends on where you are hunting whether or not to stage water. There is an area I hunt that I have not found a good water source but the deer are there so I have packed water into it before. Most mountains I have hunted I can find water to filter or use tablets to purify.
I was looking for anyone who has field experience using this cartirdge/bullet combination in any of its variations. I am building a lightweight mountain rifle and will be using this chambering and I prefer to hunt with Barnes bullets based on good terminal performance from them out of a 7mm...
My experience up there was great. Such nice people on the mountain. My home state on the other hand, I literally did have my tent stolen on the opener of the muzzle loader about 4 years ago in the mountains above bountiful. Couldn't believe my eyes.
This thread is awesome because it just makes me feel a bit vindicated about a little bit of a bad experience I had at Cabelas today. I asked if they had any 7mm-08 rifles in stock, the guy behind the desk asked me what I would be doing with the rifle, I said deer hunting, he then told me the...
I hunted hard up in Idaho this year and this is what I could turn up! Such a beautiful state! I hope the winter stays its hand for the next few years and let the deer recover.
i just got back from a weekend adventure in 76. I was a day late and a buck short, literally. I got there saturday morning to hike back into this area and passed two guys packing out 4 points, nothing huge but I would've been plenty happy with. Then another family packing out a small 3 point. I...
Lots and lots of places to camp. I would be on the side of camp out, its not a super short drive back and forth to Hanksville. I have gone down there in January and February with zero problems.
I have had a hard time finding bucks. Ive seen crap loads of elk.... they seem to be doing great. If I knew where a good buck was I would be there opening morning.
I bought the Inreach off amazon for a discount since Garmin bought them out and rolled out a new rev...So far it's been great for the time I have spent up in the Idaho Back country
So looking at your pic I happened to stumble upon where it is using my google earth. I honestly think the country more north and west from there would hold more deer. That being said I could see how that might be unrealistic to get over there if you're on foot. If I were to hunt this spot I...
