I used the Cevedales on my Sheep hunt, Alaska Range, glacier country. Boot performed well and was suited to the terrain. Talking to my guide, he said I lucked out as I should have had an insulated boot, they often get snow on those hunts, even in early August (he used Kennetrek 400 grams -...
I went through the same debate this year, bought both and ended up keeping the mountain star and am happy with my choice. The pros of a stronger pole design (in my opinion) and the ability to pitch the whole tent at once (I live in the NW, so pitching in the rain is part of the plan) were the...
I use two, the claw for lighter rifles and for my heavier rifles, I like the Specialty Outdoor Products sling, it sticks well and has some stretch to take the edge off when carrying my rifle for long distances.
I've used both KUIU and ACG Cub.
I really like the low profile of the KUIU, but found myself wanting more protection for my optics (would like more padding and did not care for all the dust/debris that collected in the pouch.
Ran the ACG Cub last year, provides great protection and I like the...
Tried an inflatable for a while. It's z-seat for me now, quick, light and compact enough, and as others have said, I pack it around my spotter for protection in my pack.
Agreed, it was a great show. I had a great time meeting up with new and old friends. Stayed up to late each night and drank too much, but it was worth it.
Had to put in a little work while I was there, my guide didn't bring any pics from last years hunts so had to help him update his booth...
I've been using the KUIU for the last couple years, has worked great, nice and compact. This year switching to the ACG CUB for added protection and extra pockets (had some issues with the KUIU letting in too much dirt). So far I like the CUB, little bulkier but don't think it will be an issue...
I wear the Comets as my everyday work boots. Very comfortable, and would be good for light hiking, but if going on more serious terrain or more than light loads, I'd go with more boot like the Quest or others.
Another vote for the Z-Seat, light, easy to pack up and quick to grab out of the pack, plus don't have to worry about puncturing on a rock. I picked up a coyote brown version off Amazon vs the bright yellow one REI carries.
JM Custom Kydex - custom molded kydex holsters: http://www.jmcustomkydex.com I went with the standard AIWB holster and 1.5" clip for my Glock 43. I also had them add "extra length" to the holster, which helps stabilize the shorter pistol, adds 1/4-1/2" length to the holster.
If you want to...
I've been experimenting with AIWB, currently carrying a Glock 43 in a JM Custom Kydex holster, overall pretty happy with it.
Pros: Better concealment and comfort, faster draw.
Cons: You must be very deliberate and careful every time you holster your pistol, a mistake will be fatal as you are...
One other note in Oregon, my understanding is that for you to Trespass, the land must be posted per ORS 105.700, I could be wrong, but that is how I read this section:
