Yes with the new electronic scales especially high end accuracy a slight air movement can and will throw off the scales measurement. I have seen it at my work when scales are calibrated.
Well good luck handling some rifles this weekend. I would do what others have said go to Grice or Euro-optic this weekend and check them out for yourself. Just remember for PA no SEMI-Auto for White tail. Any center-fire is legal but my personal preference would be something in the 6mm or 25...
Well if the 243 is sissy count me in I use one occasionally for white tail and shot quite a few with it when I was a teenager. I use 95 grain ballistic tips with no issue. I reload for another with Sierra 85 gr HPBT. Its great to shoot and knocks them dead. I just gave one to my nephew a couple...
No I have not. I did put a set on an X-bolt and they worked good just not enough clearance on the bell so bought a rail and new rings. I have several talleys on various guns and I could most definitely tell a difference between the Leupold and the Talley rings. But sorry I do not own a Weatherby...
I personally have used both and would say the Leupold ones are much more robust. I have seen on this forum and others that some people have had issues with the Talley mounts(Breaking around screw holes).
I have an X-bolt in 280 AI Speed Ovix. I did change out the trigger spring and lowered my pull to 2.25 lbs. Which works good for me. I am shooting the 162 ELD-X and shoots very well. This is my 2nd X-Bolt and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if it was in a caliber I wanted.
I have to agree with the 6mm cartridge suggestions. A fast twist 243 would be very easy on the shoulder and opens up a whole new world to explore for bullet selection. If you don't reload then you limit your selection to calibers more prone to a good market selection of ammo. The 223 is a good...
Well I maybe the odd ball out here but, I purchased my 280AI in the Browning X bolt Speed Ovix for 1400 and topped it off with a Trijicon Tenmile from EuroOptic 3-18X50mm Scope sitting on a Leupold rail held on with either Leupold rings or Seekins. I am shooting the 162 gr ELD-X factory ammo for...
Well I shoot a re-barreled Ruger M77 22" 1/10 twist with factory 95 gr ballistic tip Nosler with great accuracy here in the Mountains of PA. I like the 243 great caliber I hand load another with 85 grain Sierra HPBT and those are devastating on white tail. Unfortunately not available from...
I can attest to that shot a good size doe at about 260-280 yards and she fell so fast I didn't even see it. I thought I missed her till, I walked over and found her laying there. Dang good round in my Wby Vanguard S2. A pleasure to shoot as well.
I have three different Wby Rifle two are in the Vanguard series(257, 240) and shoot very well. My only Mark V is a 6.5-300 in the Accumark. I like all three and say get what you want no wrong answers here. Best of luck
Yep nice little guns the 600's. I have one in the Mohawk 600 in 222. My first rifle bought new an still have the box in the attic for it. I Used it for my first season hunting and took a nice doe with it.
I like my Browning X bolts. I have two both newer and both have the bolt locked while in safe but, it can be overridden by pressing down on the tab that is on the bolt. Just some info for you to have. Good luck and no matter what you get be safe and have fun.
