G'day
I received a forehead rest today for my NL 12's and set about fitting it. The instructions are basic as the job is straight forward.
Pop out the grub screws and press fit the rest. I noticed the size discrepancy between the shoulder on the screws and the shafts on the rest. The rest...
G'day,
I'm looking at dipping my toe into the 12x world and I'm looking at some new Meoptas or 2nd hand Trinovids. I have zero experience with either model and haven't turned up a solid comparison between these two.
Anyone care to weigh in with some experiences regarding these two models?
I...
Evening gents,
I'm seeking some feedback on game performance from the CEB MTH projectiles.
Whilst I'm no LR hunter, these projectile are claimed to expand down to 1600fps which makes them very attractive to me. My go to deer rifle is a 8x57R and my launch velocity of a 256gr bullet, according...

G'day,
I'm in the market for a cylinder stove....open to a stove slightly oversize as I will also use it in a larger shelter next season.
Any condition is OK by me as long as it functions.
Cheers,
Jason
G'day,
I'm a shelter stove virgin and I'm going to pull the trigger on a Lite Outdoors stove to run with my Supertarp for a hunt in October......will a 5' pipe suffice?
Cheers,
Jason
G'day,
This WTB ad probably stands for me and a bunch of other guys, but as the US hunting season progresses I'm sure there will be a few guys unloading gear.
As per the title I'm after a Kifaru Hunter 26" frame (sm or med belt) and/or a Fulcrum bag (solids only).
Not too fussed about wear...
G'day,
I've run a set of Alpines for a few years now. I have punished them and have been extremely happy with the abuse they have shrugged off.
My pants are a 34 and I'm a shade under 32 now so they hang off me....it is not practical to take then in far enough to fit correctly.
I'm no Kuiu...
G'day,
I've got a trip into an area closed to vehicle traffic coming up in late October...target species is Sambar (Cervus unicolour) which are in the 300-700lb range with no bag limit.
The only limitations to my meat haul for this trip is geting them on the ground and hauling them out.
We...
I got my Superterp in the mail last night and set it up for the first time.
What are the paracord loops adjacent the web peg loops used for? They dont seem orientated for peg use.
Heading off in the morning at 0300hrs for a week in the high country....seam sealing will have to happen on the...
I have a few DIY projects I’m crafting a materials list for, namely a bunch of pull outs, CF Emergency Tarp and some wings to retro fit to my Highcamp 4800 bag, ala-Fulcrum style.
I have a great sewing mentor to lean on when I screw something up, I just need to grab the right gear as DIY...
G'day,
I just dropped an order on a bunch of Kifaru gear, included in this is a Slick Bag Long/Wide.
Wondering if the Long was overkill, definitely sticking with the Wide, but the Reg covers you to 6'1", and I'm 6'1'....is it true to size or is it worth the gettin the Long (6'7") as I did...
I've used a bunch of different methods to convey coffee to my bloodstream when camping/backpacking or away from shops. The Wacaco Minipresso is my current drug delivery vehicle.
You can get them in two capsule forms or in a unit that handle grinds, this is what I have. There is now a Nanopresso...
Gents,
I thought I post up a spreadsheet I have for all the floorless shelters out there that interest me....might be useful to someone.
Feel free to chip in with any real world weights as these have mostly been derived from manufacturers websites.
nb If it's too small to read hold down ctrl...
I've been this searching morning for a Kifaru Tut canopy weight to add to a gear spread sheet (floorless 2 man selection)....Kifaru list it with pole and pegs at 3lb 12oz.
Even the reviews I found don't weigh the individual components.
Does anyone have a first hand or reference weight for it...
G'day,
I'll have a new Kestrel caper soon and will get to pick between an AEB-L or S90V model....I have zero experience with either material.
Mountain Caper — Kestrel Knives
Looking at the specs (GIRU page) the S90V holds an edge longer than the AEB-L steel, long enough to forgo carrying...
The first half of this post was included to help out those new to backpacking.......it answers the 'why'?
Getting geared up for backpacking, even at a basic level, means you will have to fork out a good wad of cash. Any money saving tips are usually a compromise....the old adage about quality...
For the guys running these shelters, or equivalent, what conditions/topography/forecasts/temps/altitudes or localities would make you leave them at home and pick something else to live under?
