I don’t know the answer to your question, but I can tell you that deer eat a variety of partially fermenting and dried plants as well as the “fresh” stuff. So I don’t think you can rely on plant dormancy to predict migration well. Check out the book “Mule Deer Country” by Valeriest Geist if you want to get deeper into deer diet. Pretty interesting stuff.
