Now that the 22 cm is mainstream and saami approved it’s time for a new hotrod .224.
Think I’ll have a 22 prc reamer drawn up for the 88-95 grain offering.anyone done one? Think this will be the bleeding edge of diminished returns.

*** before the comments start- I could not care less about barrel life- barrels are cheap and I’d rather have fun than clutch pearls***

Been wondering about one lately my self, was trying to think of a way to maybe do like a 243 win/ 6slr change to the prc case and see if there would be a way to knock down the neck shoulder junction back to a 40deg just slightly shortening the column just a touch, but also giving that sharp shoulder and it anything needing shortened maybe trim the neck.

But that also make dies a big pain.

Re: dies
I’m starting with a straight neck down
I did it with 2 bushings .271, .251
Don’t want to hassle with custom dies

I have 2 magnum boltface tikkas that I'd like to make some flavor of 6mm without buying crazy expensive brass or dies

The 6 prc (6.5) or straight 6 saum are easy to wildcat with a simple bushing die.
I’d go prc unless you already have or can source saum brass In which case the 6 saum.

Curious on what kind of speed your getting/ expecting?

I think I’ll be limited on my barrel blanks
Bartlein 1:8 5R more so than the case capacity.
I’d assume 3400 would be easy with the right powder over 3500.
At 3500 that’s a 8mph gun #
3500 also get closer to 300k rpm for jackets

Have you thought about just going 22UM?

I did when I saw form mention it on here.

I have a 6um on the way- judging by some of the stated velocities over the 6PRC-The 6um seems to be on the ragged edge for 6mm where the gains diminish.

I don’t think there would be worthwhile gains for the hassle of the work in .224
Plus- I don’t want to have to Fireform a second saum case.
Once I burn through my stock of SAUM brass I’ll likely leave it and move to prc cases due to their availability and easy die swap. Having 1 die set and inexpensive brass makes the economy of buying barrels pencil out

I’m pretty stacked on ADG brass for my 6.5 PRC so I like this idea of a 22PRC. Only thing I’ll need to buy is a barrel. Was going to try the 6PRC as well but yeah, doesn’t seem like it’ll be worth the effort.

What about a 6mm-7prc? No short action, but would probably be a screamer.

We (as in "i") need hornady to make a 6mm prc (based off the 7prc case) and a 120gr eldm.

Yep
Probably be right near where the 6um is but no Fireforming
I think I heard they(unknown munitions)had ordered a reamer already
