My .243 has a 1:8 twist. Lots'a good folks highly recommend 85/87 gr bullets. With an 8 twist - FOR WILEY - is there any advantage to going to a heavier bullet??

If so - recommendations?

Thanks.

Higher BC, less wind drift, less drop at range. Only advantages if shooting several hundred yards. 108 ELDM would probably get the job done.

Notice below that the lower MV round is going faster with less wind drift at 800 yards. These are using standard atmospheric conditions and a 10 mph wind.

Hornady 108 ELDM using factory stated MV for 6 Creedmoor at 2960 fps. You can probably get a better MV from the 243 given slightly larger case capacity.

Hornady 87 gr V-max using their factory load MV of 3240 fps.

Thank you. Appreciated. Will purchase the 108's.

Guide says most shots will be less than 400 yards. Seems most folks really like the 87 gr V Max and 85 gr Sierra BTHP. I have both. Accurate and capable.

If your calling coyotes then most shots will probably be under 200, even under 100. And I prefer speed over high bc on anything under 300.
KS,
On your preference....
JBM Calculations makes a strong argument for the 75 gr V Max @ 3,200 + fps. Seems a nice balance between weight and speed. Have moved to an 8 twist 243 and why I posted my questions.

Thanks.

I ran a 70 gr nosler bt @ 3500 fps for years. And that was with an 8 twist brux barrel.
