7mm-08 short barrel recommendations

I’ve considered getting a savage lightweight storm in left hand but was hesitant because of the process of going through the custom shop. I haven’t heard of anyone doing this for a LH.

How long did it take to get your rifle from the moment you ordered it?

What was the extra cost?

Why didn’t you get the barrel cut and threaded to your desired length right from the factory?

Savage said they try to stay under 90 day turn around. They would only give FFL dealer quote I think was 150 or 200 over what it normally ran. To be honest I never even thought about threading but I don't think they would of cut barrel. They'll only basically do actions cause of the variety they have. I know they wouldn't do short barrel for my prc. Cost me 205 to shorten barrel an thread I was ok with it quality job.

Thanks. Yeah, I've looked at that, but I'd have to get an aftermarket stock to get it short enough for her. Still an option though

Ultradyne makes chassis for Savage short actions starting at 299 an their light. Could put adjustable stock on it then

My Tikka Lite Stainless chopped to 20” with a TBAC Dominus shoots factory 150 ELDx at 2775 fps, if that helps.

I have a Remington Model Seven in 7-08 with a factory 20” barrel. I get 2850fps with 140 grain Accubonds and 3000fps with 120 grain NBTs.

Book max load of Big Game powder for the ABs. Book max of Varget for the 120s.

18" barrel with 140g will still be above 2700fps on most factory loads.
Don't get to hung up on the velocity loss if your plan is to have a handy rifle because you can't have both.
If you absolutely need speed then load up some 120g nbt or ttsx and get your 3k fps.

Agreed when I did my 7mm-08 I planned on it being 200-300 yd gun at most. Wanted a short light an handy rifle. Just did same with my 7 prc for a 5-600 yd gun with lil more umph.... just hunting rifles nicer to pack around 7mm-08 come in a 7.5lbs with suppressor an 7prc at 8.5lbs so be nice to pack around an more nimble

Solid choices! I want a 7prc but I'm not sure how much it gains over the 7wsm or 7saum when we start cutting barrel off.

Yeah I've never had anything 7mm til last year an didn't have anything to build off of being a lefty actions are high so I figured if I didn't like the savage 7 prc I get a Tikka in a wsm later on. Doing load development this week so see how it goes from here I know the 7mm-08 shoots under an inch with 139 sst superformance factory so hard to even want to hand load for it.

I cut my Tikka to 17 inches.
140 Accubonds with Big Game powder
2700 FPS

Shoots great with my suppressor. Gives me nearly 340 yds with 1500 lbs of energy.
