I wanted to do a documented tune of my bow since I just got my new gas strings broken in, 500 plus shots. They have not moved a mm, pleased with them. Here’s the specs
Prime centergy
28.5” draw, 65#
Arrows BE spartan 300 cut to 28.25”, 153 upfront, with iron will s125. 3 left offset Q2i 3.0 on the back with a 4” wrap and nock bushing, x nock.

spot Hogg Tommy Hogg single pin, hamskea trinity, aae hot rodz back bar with shrewd offset bracket 5 oz on the back, carter evolution release. Hamskea raptor peep 3/16 and tight spot quiver.

I started by bare shaft paper tuning in my basement to get a bullet hole. Had to set rest just past 7/8” to get that.
Then went outside and shot bare shaft and field points and broadheads at 40 yards. The sequence of photos is me progressively moving the rest left to get field points and bh to come together. I started with a bare shaft with the yellow wrap( didn’t want to lose an iron will when I didn’t know where it would hit), then you will see I switch to 3 of the same fletch arrows, 2 field point and 1 iron will.

so anyways this kinda proved to me that paper tuning is kinda misleading. I was actually getting big tear lefts in my paper and that’s why I moved my rest right out past 7/8 to get the bullet hole. Then I ended up closer to 13/16 to achieve good broadhead and field point fligh

Sorry here is the paper tune that I started with.

I’m going to assume you only did paper from an up close distance and only at that distance? Also are you not using the cable guard adjustment to help with lateral tears?

I bare shafted at 8’ and 15’ ish. I have not really been able to produce a noticeable difference when decreasing or increasing load on the cable guard. Maybe in the fine tuning process.

I’ve always found grip pressure plays a huge role in the way the Primes shoot. More pressure on the heel of the palm would help decrease lateral tears.

Ya. I have heard that but would rather use the grip if comfortable with and can repeat. The bow tuned out well for me as the last picture shows.

So what’s your theory on why I would get a bullet hole with a bare shaft and then be way off when shooting at 40 yards?

Bareshaft at 40 is very difficult to achieve. Everything and I mean everything has to be absolutely perfect each and every shot or else you’ll end up chasing your tail. I honestly don’t go past 20. If I can get everything shooting perfect at that range I have never once had issues with broadheads hitting with field points at any distance.

Interesting. I guess the end result of broadheads, field points, and bareshafts hitting together is the end result that we all want!
