Looking for sheds a 5-6 foot wood staff works good , especially on steep downhills. The carbon fiber one in the picture looks good, though kinda pricy.

A friend of mine did a Tur hunt in Azerbaijan......the guides cut him a timber staff that could safely handle his full weight when side sloping. Steep nasty country and the staff was a lifesaver by his report.

Google alpenstock.

Staffs are much more popular here in Europe. I can see why because they make a great standing rest while stalking through the woods and you need to make a quick shot. I was laughed at by my German and Polish buddies when I pulled out the hiking polls during our Ibex hunt in Spain calling them old woman walking polls and it's true, all the old woman walk with them here. We all quickly saw the pros and cons of each and each have their place in certain situations.

Love my bamboo staff. Helps during the all and use it as a rest for standing sitting or kneeling shots.
