Me and my group are looking at a caribou hunt in 2025 and are seriously considering Canada with a guide. Looking at Manitoba, but willing to go elsewhere.

My dad's getting up there in age and mobility is an issue and we figure guided hunt with a bed and meals after each day would be better then DIY Brooks Range type Alaskan hunt.

Found an outfitter that looks promising ($10k for a fly in 'outpost' hunt), but before we book, was wondering if anyone had other suggestions of outfitters that they'd be willing to share positive info about?

The priority is getting my dad a caribou as this is his "bucket list" hunt.

Talked to guide today and sounds as if it's all dependent on the migration.

Just wondering if there's any outfits people recommend? Feel free to PM me if you want.

Hunting in Manitoba for Central Canada Barren Ground Caribou has been a crap shoot the last 8 years, about like going to a casino. I think 2017 was good but not so hot since or for the 2 years prior.

Too bad, but that is how it is. I went 3 times to arrow a bull further North in Nunavut. First two hunts were not any good when I was there in Oct ‘18 and Sept 19. Did arrow one in September’21.

Good luck!

So, basically like the outfitter said, "based on the migration"?

Also, I noticed you mentioned archery. If you had a rifle would that have changed your outcomes? (Were planning on using rifles.)

Have you checked Newfoundland or the NWT?
Yes and no. Both of those would probably need a commercial airline flight, right?

Was hoping to drive there from the midwest. This Manitoba spot is 19 hrs for us and gets us to the tarmac for the puddle jumper/cub.

Then when we come home. We can put quarters in coolers and drive home and not worry about shipping meat/antlers.

Not sure about Newfounland but I am planning a hunt in the NWT and we are going to drive to Fort Simpson, NWT to fly in. Not sure how much further that would make your drive.

That would double my drive. Lol.

Our current drive is 19 hours + border crossing. Planning to drive it in 2 days.

Where in the midwest? You can drive to NFLD just grab the ferry up in North Sydney in NS. A lot of moose and caribou in the middle of the island. I've been looking at it and 6k is a pretty common price for outfitters in that area. I rode my motorcycle up there and through Labrador several years ago from Atlanta. It was an awesome area and ride.

If anyone is quoting you $6K in Newfoundland for a caribou hunt Stay away from them.
