Colorado September Deer Rifle Units 14,16,161- Mount Zirkel Wilderness

Hi All, I am an experienced solo back country hunter. I just picked up this tag on the reissue list. I am planning for 2 scouting trips into the zirkels and hoping folks might have thoughts on entry points and areas to scout for deer in September. I’m currently virtually scouting the northern half of the units between buck mountain and red elephant. Thanks!

Lot of fires that way last year if my memory is right. Thought about picking one of those tags up last year and then the area caught fire before season.

I’ve elk hunted there quite a bit. Most of the bucks I’ve seen have been within about the first mile from a road or trailhead. I think these units are a good example of the hardcore guys walking right past the deer.
