Someone was talking about a black tail hunt , and of course I was curios and saw a outfit selling Columbia white tail and had never seen or heard of them, any one hunt them ? They like Coues deer , just a small subspecies of white tail ? Like Carmen Mountain whitetail here in west Texas

They are a subspecies of whitetail in western Oregon. Pretty rare these days. A few in the lower Columbia estuary islands. Enough to hunt in some places in southern Oregon.

Yup. Even some “regular” whitetails is in northeast Oregon. Might have to go after those ones some year, just to try whitetail hunting.

Have had friends hunt them. The Columbia WT are in huntable numbers around Roseburg I believe. They are little fellas. The WT in NE OR are like you find in ID/MT/Dakotas, some pretty good sized bucks.

They are in WA as well, but we don’t have any seasons for them. We have property on the Columbia, and have them in the yard all the time. A few pretty nice bucks running around too.

Just one of the yard bucks.

We have them all over the place in the Roseburg area. Tags are few and far between and they mainly reside on private ground with the exception of the North Bank habitat. Tags for the North Bank habitat take quite a few points to draw as a resident.

Columbia Whitetail in my parents yard this morning in Roseburg area.

That’s a monster! The biggest one I’ve seen was killed by a vehicle right in Roseburg. It was a really nice 4x3 with eye guards. Not anywhere near the caliber of buck in you photo though!

Yeah I have lived here almost 30 years and have not seen one of that caliber. Didn’t know they got that big.
