WTB Garmin Messenger or Mini 2

I have an upcoming Fishing trip in Canada and my wife would like to be able to get a hold of me in case of an emergency. Only really need it for 10 days since I don't have any other trips lined up, outside of mobile service, for the next 2 years. I don't know much about these things, but it seems either of these 2 will allow text messaging with the corresponding plan.
