Help me revive my dad's .270! Reloading ??'s

Anyone have a pet load for Hornady 145grn ELDX bullets in their 22" .270?

Years ago I inherited my dad's Winchester model 70 pre 64 in .270 Win. I refinished and free-floated the barrel. I bedded the action, gave her a trigger job and a new coat of Cerakote.

Help me reload for this old timer beauty with some of your favorite pet .270 loads!!

This! I load for a buddy using 130 gr. Partitions or Accubonds and worked up a load using H4831SC and Federal 215 magnum primers. Really shoots great. I'm pretty partial to either of those bullets as they work exceptionally well on game and typically shoot very nicely also.

Had to add that I really like how your rifle turned out! It's beautiful!

130gr hornady interlocks with 55gr of AR2209.

About what grains h4831 are you running for the 130's?

I haven't tried the .277 ELD-X out yet (because I haven't stumbled across any up here...) but am curious to find out how they stabilize in a 1-10 twist. Report back when you get there!

With regard to the 145 grain load, a bullet with a similar long bearing surface (150 Berger, Etc) would be a great place to start. Theoretically, you'd be able to eek above published max for a 150.

Can't wait to hear how they shoot!

I agree. The scope isn't permanent. It's just what I had on hand. It will get a Leupold gloss 3x9 someday soon!

That's the exact scope I've got on my '69 M70. Pretty tried and true combo. The cool kids don't believe that rig/ammo work anymore.

My Tika shoots best with heavy bullets (140-150g) and max load of 4831sc. 130g bullets are more accurate with a max load of R22 in my rifle. It kind of goes against conventional thought that the slower powder does better with the lighter bullets. I figured this out through trial and error on sandbags at 100 yards. Every rifle is different, and our suggestions are just starting points for your experimentation.
