How much ice do you think is safe for a side by side to go on it? I see dudes in trucks drive out and it makes me nervous

I pulled mine out with my ranger on 8-9", now we drive around with crew cabs with v plows, but we have 18" now. Definitely need to know the lake and where you are!

Ya thats why i said that. I have been to brainerd and thats not a tournament. Thats just a go find a hole and hope to hell you get lucky to catch a random fish that might swim by. It like buying a lottery ticket no skill involved.
Pretty much, you cant really even use a vexilar because of all the interference from 10,000 other vexilars, but its still fun, I've been going every year for a while now. Truck camping on the ice this year!

8 inches is good for a side by side. We got 16 -17 inches on lake Oahe and people drive 3/4 ton diesel’s all over pulling ice castles. Stay away from pressure ridges and the bridges and it’s pretty safe. With the snow we got now you hit a slush pocket every now and then and that will make you pucker. I don’t ice fish near what I used to but if I did I would have a tracked ranger. A pick up or two go down every year but usually it’s people that don’t know the lake going where they should not.

Heading to Ely, Nevada tomorrow morning for a week of ice fishing. My profile pic was from Comins Lake in 2019. I'll get some pics up over the weekend.

That looks awesome. I am not aware of a place in CO to get real after size perch and panfish. Fish fry like that is amazing.
There are plenty of places to fill the fryer with perch in CO. You can PM me if you want some lake tips.

Headed to Mille Lacs tomorrow. Guys trip with a sleeper shack, so not sure how many fish will be caught.

Seeing all these pics and stories is great. Still don't have great ice around me, a lot of open water still. Hope to be able to get out this weekend with the temps finally getting and staying cold for a bit.

They cancelled our annual 4 hour tournament because of bad ice.

Gonna buy an auger and head out on my own.
