Wiser or tricer pan heads… and I have a slick 634 that I like. I believe both above companies make or put their stickers on lightweight tripods as well. RRS if you have 1$k burning a hole in your pocket

Shameless plug for Cameraland, have bought several things from them. They are great!

I have been pretty happy with a Leofoto tripod I bought. I use it double duty for glassing and shooting,. They have tons of options with varying weight and heights. While most prefer pan heads, I am an anomaly in that I prefer a ball head on tripods that I plan on shooting off of.

Have you considered a Spartan? You get to drop the trekking piles as well as use it for a shooting platform.

A 3 pound tripod to shoot off?
I can see me breaking it the first time in the field.
Nope that won't happen for sure. You can hang a few hundred pounds of a good carbon tripod. Worth a look at if weight is the number 1 concern.

The Hoplite will finally be in the USA in the next few days. We were able to get 20 of them from Spartan. This is their long waited for mini tripod that can be used to shoot and glass off with Binos or a spotter. Weight is only 1.4. It can be fit in the side pocket of a backpack it's so small. It replaces a large tripod as well as your bipod. The ball is centered in the center of the tripod for a solid center of gravity, not big bulky head at the top of the tripod.

Feel free to PM me for details, about 15 of the 20 we are getting were pre-sold at Western Hunt and SCI.

Works with current Spartan adapters.
