Lower layer system

Going on a hunt in krygzstan next September. Temps should be lows around freezing highs in the 50s. Usually fair amount of wind as well. Will be horseback several hours each day.

I'm thinking of kuiu axis pants with zip off FL furnace 350 zip off base layer, I already own the furnace base layer.

Other option is to wear lighter pants with a zip over insulated pant like the Kenai or FL equivalent. Not interested in puffy pants due to somewhat fragile nature.

Sounds like you already have a solid plan and already answered your own question. (Some might differ on brand as I like stone glacier zip over and unders.

We were there in August, going back next year in October. Sounds like a good system. Don’t overlook rain gear. We caught rain twice.

I'll be at dsc convention in 2 weeks. Hopefully get to try on sg dehavilland pant and kuiu axis pants.

I know the axis are fleece lined so thinking warmth won't be an issue with base layer in 30 degree windy weather.

Would the sg dehavilland be warm enough in those conditions with heavy weight merino base? I do like the long zipper vents.

Only worried about getting cold while horseback for several hours on early morning ride to hunting area.

I get cold easily, I wore attack pants. My legs never got cold, riding the horses kept me warm. Occasionally I would put on a Lost Park Parka
