Yes it snaps in the same as before I trimmed it, just have to guide it into the sheath a little more carefully as the opening isn't as wide.

I wanted to increase the width on mine but don’t currently have the tools/supplies to do a traditional handle, so instead I decided to try making a wider paracord handle with 2 wraps of thinner cordage. The inner layer is a fishbone weave similar to how it shipped and the outer layer is just alternating overhand knots with surgeons knots near the end to make the handle flare out at the back. By leaving a small gap near the blade, I got the sheath to fit perfectly without trimming it and the finger guard is now functional too. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and it’s far more comfortable and grippy than the original paracord handle. As a bonus, I now have one long 15 foot piece of cordage if needed in an emergency.

Finally got to try mine out. Very happy with how well it worked skinning and quartering a pronghorn buck. Replaced their paracord wrap with a more substantial single wrap that worked fine for me.

Mine made it through half an antelope before I noticed the sharpness going. I switched to my havalon and remembered why I love my havalon.

I received my knife yesterday, the wrap looks decent but the low quality paracord has a lot of slack in it. I ended up tightening it up as much as I could and slid a piece of shrink tubing over it. Time will tell but I like the feel of it now and it feels nice and secure.

Looks like something a federal inmate would concoct!

I used mine this weekend to skin a pig and break it down half way. Still super sharp but I was just touching it up and noticed it's edge is chipped already. Not too thrilled about the performance on this super light duty so far.

S90V is fairly hard heat treat to maintain that edge like it does I guess. This was my first S90V blade.

I'm going to pull the trigger on one of those IronWill K2 ultralights in A2 tool steel soon.. been kind of drooling over those for a while.

My favorite knife I've used on multiple animals for full breakdown of bones, sawing etc is an old benchmade in D2 steel.. its got some cheesy bone collector graphics on it but gets scary sharp and the serrations saw right through bone/cartilage. I thought I lost it years ago on a hunting ranch when I lived down in TX but found it 2 years later under the bench seat in the cab of my truck. I was happy to see it again because they discontinued the serrated models. I think the new is called saddle hunter and S30V steel but no serrations.

Is that the factory edge?

You're not wrong, but it was cheap and easy so I'll run with it for a while and see how it goes. As far as the edge goes I wonder if changing the angle to 30° would make a difference?

Yes, it is. I didn't touch it before dressing that pig.

I have had four factory edged ones in my hand, and they all have had very rough grinds. It wouldn't surprise me if the burr left Andes up with chipping like that.

Of those four, I think only one has cut an animal; a stone sheep (maybe he will chime in here) and I think it did a little work but not a lot.

I do know for certain that I am taking the bevel back quite a bit and it is polishing out well. Hopefully the one I have will cut this weekend.

This is before we started. I did the work on the back side. Have also done a few ducks, abs a hack cut of a dog collar as my old dog got his jaw stuck under the younger dogs collar. It's held up good so far20220914_165841.jpg

Brought this with me to hunt mule deer yesterday. Wife ended up getting a big buck so I was stoked to put it to work. Thing was dull by the time I was done, could barely bone out the last 2 quarters.

I won't be trusting this as my only knife on a backpack hunt, iron will k1 will continue to be the correct option.
