I did this sheep hunt in 2019 and Sporting Classics ran my article on it in their current issue. I combined the trip with a week-long DIY bowhunt on another island, but you can only go guided on Ni'ihau. They also have Polynesian wild hogs, Aoudad and Eland. I also hunted a hog.
It is called "The Forbidden Island" because outsiders are not allowed, and haven't been for over a century...except recently for one-day hunting safaris, which I jumped on the opportunity to do.
It is one of the most remote places an American can travel to without a passport.
The sheep are wild and have been there since the mid-1800s. The people are very nice, but you only see and deal with the guide and drivers. The main town is completely off limits, but I saw a lot of the island on the hunt. It is stunningly beautiful.
Neat hunt and experience.
