Nm gmu 21a

Me and my buddy got drawn for NM 21 for deer. We'll probably focus on 21A in the Gila. Anyone here ever hunted this area? I've heard the northern part holds some deer but it gets pretty narrow towards the top. Thanks for the help and advice. Shoot straight!

I know this sounds cliche but the whole unit will hold deer. You'll find muleys in all of the mountains/deserts in the unit and in the area that you're looking at you'll also find some Coues deer. This past year I punched my tag on a nice 3x3 muley there. Be warned though, there is a lot of hunting pressure everywhere you go since there are so many tags for the unit.

I've heard north near Wahoo Peak is good but the same goes with the pressure.

Yup, scout it.

I drew muzzleloader deer in there. B is easy access but a lot of private land that is not very well marked in some cases. A is public but harder access and more timber than the transitional terrain. Are you close enough to scout a bit? when is your hunt?

Doghed-Yes I'm here in Las Cruces so I can make a day trip for scouting. My hunt is September 1-24 and January 1-15.
