Two friends and I recently returned from a week in SE Alaska; 5 straight days of hunting, one salt day, and one river day. After missing a nice forky at 20 yds on day one with the bow, I sealed the deal with the rifle on day 3 after a perfect spot and stalk play getting to 100 yds above a bedded Sitka.

Lot's of work managing wet gear and shelters during a couple of days of relentless rain. The reward was alpine vistas, backcountry camaraderie, and a healthy mix of type 1 and type 2 fun. Not to mention 3 deer, a ptarmigan, 4 halibut, 4 salt coho, and 2 river coho.

I am already missing the rugged green alpine terrain and look forward to the ability to return to the wild of AK. Also my new Exo K3 4800 was 🔥

Nice work! We’ll be there soon! Any advice?

OnX doesn't really do the terrain justice, its steeper than the topo lines suggest. Micro spikes, gaiters, and trekking poles were useful. A shelter to cook and dry out gear was essential. Have a plan for getting fish boxes from a lodge for meat or coolers.

Have fun and good luck!

What's your Trident connection? I know a relief guide for the Annadale and work for a subsidiary of Trident.

Right on, that's a killer boat. Glad you guys pulled it all together, that's a special place to hunt/fish.

Funny Sundance,

I knew those blue Wooldridge pilothouse boats were for Trident Seafoods, but didn't know about the Annandale.

Yeah, the Annadale is the luxury yacht they use to schmooze buyers and take employees out as a thank you. Top notch company to work for and the largest American owned seafood company.

Awesome pics and experience, thanks for sharing. Been there twice for bears (zero for two, bears win) and fishing (we won!) and hope to go back for a Sitka someday. As you experienced, the terrain is awesome and miserable and the rain is horrid. Congrats on closing the deal on a nice buck.

looks like a great trip! Ak is the land of adventure. I spent a couple years working in SE Ak (sea urchin and cuke diving) one year we worked out of Craig, the other year Ketchikan, and didn't hunt a single day while there. we were working every day.... now hunting sitka BT is top on my hunting bucket list, but mine's gonna be POW pre rut/rut hunting the muskeg. I went with the guy who unloaded our boat a few times, and I have a lot of desire and go back and hunt those orange antler bucks in their winter coats (one of the prettiest animals on earth)

it's a very budget friendly and realistic hunt for me, and those are amazing deer... after I scratch that itch, i'm sure i'll get the alpine bug.... pretty place to hang out. congrats on an amazing hunt, thanks for taking the time to share the story and pics.... i'm jealous

Just a heads up if any of you were taking the ferry from Prince Rupert up with your trucks, the AK ferry system just announced service to Prince Rupert will be ending Oct 1.
