Quartering to Shot With 7 Mag

I like the 160-170 gr range. My 7mm has a 1:9 twist and doesn’t shoot anything 175 gr+ nearly as well as the lighter bullets. I like the Berger VLDs or Hornady eld-x. Both shoot great for me but you should shoot a ton of different projectiles and see what shoots best for you. Last 6 bulls I’ve killed were one shot kills. Elk are tough so don’t force a bad shot or shoot unless you’re 100% sure you can put one in the heart or lungs.

I shot my bull with 175 grain Barnes TSX bullets at 275 yards the first shot was broadside the second one was him quartering to me at a slow trot both bullets penetrated completely. He was DRT. Of course this is back before I found out from the PRC crowd the 7 mag couldn't shoot heavy bullets.
