Rainier Centennial Stovepipe Question

I recently purchased a used Rainier Centennial Tent and unlike other wall tents the stovejack is on the sidewall not the roof of the tent. Based on pictures it looks like the stovepipe goes out at a 45 degree angle. I have an elbow piece but my question is do I put the elbow piece on first to establish the angle then run the stove pipe out? Also, I’m using this tent in Western Washington, will there be a problem with rain going down the stovepipe? If so, is there an attachment I can buy or easy fix you’ve found to prevent the rain going down the stovepipe? Thanks!
