I'm having trouble getting good pics and video with the setup described in the title. A couple recent examples attached, from clear but windy conditions, from probably 800 yards. Any answers to the following questions are much appreciated.
  • Should the eye cup on the viewing lens be twisted in or out?
  • Do you rely on the zoom on the spotting scope, on the phone, or both? I can never seen to find the right balance.
  • I've been aligning the scopecam with the center of the 3 lenses on the phone, which I think is the normal lens. It does all kinds of random stuff. Sometimes it switches to the zoom lens at 2x, sometimes not until 9x.
  • But, aligning with the telephoto, which I think is the top lens, never works at all (just black screen). Do I just need some kind of 3rd party android camera app?
  • The scope pics are generally just too grainy, but the phone takes excellent regular pics. Am I being overly optimistic about how far the ATC can digiscope?
  • I also just think my tripod sucks. It's a spindly aluminum vortex with the factory head. What backcountry tripod and head, etc., would you use with this setup?
Thanks for considering.
