I can't get over how excited I am for the 2017 Washington blacktail seasons!! My experience with these deer has been short, four seasons worth now. Three unsuccessful seasons with the bow and one successful rifle season last year. Here's my first blacktail, I left plenty of room for improvement!
Maddening barely describes the nature of blacktail hunting. Their elusiveness combined with unmerciful man-swallowing vegetation and you're in for one hell of a psychological bender.
Well I'm hooked on the madness and eager to build my blacktail knowledge base. Took a short hike today in country I've never set foot in. Looks promising, especially for an October hunt. Good rub density showing several years of use. My scouting partner posed by this rub.
The clouds finally lifted for a little scenery shot.
This was my first scout for 2017. I'll be out and about every chance I get. Real excited to explore some big mountain areas later this summer. Until the snow recedes I'll keep my focus on lower elevations, looking for rut zones.
