Hey fellas,
Looking to build or buy a side charging AR in .223 Wylde. Want the charging handle to be non reciprocating. Not going to lie, love the looks/feel of the JP SCI-20, and keep coming back to it. But the ~$3400 price for a full build gives me pause. I could buy it, but hard to justify at that price. Was honestly trying to keep it under $2k. Anyone who’s gone the side charging route on one of their builds— have some experienced input? Debating if I should go JP upper, Gibbz upper, or just see what a box full of components for a SCI-20 would cost and just have a grown up Legos day (if the saved cost is even worth it).

For reference, here’s the gun I keep coming back to…. Would be mostly a range day fun gun/ combo open country hunting rifle. Not too worried about the total weight for my specific use case.
