Howdy. I have a couple of questions for you younger operators out there. I was taught on the nylon USGI sling for shooting with a USMC loop sling. I have a couple of the Turner Saddlery leather slings but they are second place for me, only because of the roots in my shooting career. I hear that the newer generation of warriors use a 2- or 3-point sling. Do they teach marksmanship with that style or am I ignorant? I am testing the waters for getting a new sling system for my weapons. After getting my sling caught on some Concertina wire I never patrolled with a sling thereafter. I carried it for when I needed it but felt it was a liability to have it on there. For a while I used some 1” nylon tubing as a single-point and that allowed me to swing it to the rear and grab my 1911 if the need was there. I like to have consistency and I need to be able to climb, hands-free, and shoot like the loop sling for zeroing, practice, long shots, accuracy and etc. Suggestions?

Brandon,

Cant answer your question as I wouldnt know but I had a buddy turn me on to Slogan outdoor sling and Im super happy with it. Have it on my Crossow and on my Shotgun. Its very comfortable and made from a heavy gauge stretch rubber. I couldnt be happier with it. Figured Id pass it on as once I tried it my sling search ended.

I have one. Only good for over the shoulder. Not good for patrolling at the low ready nor shooting as an aid.

Not an operator but I prefer a simple 2 pt sling made of 1" webbing like this https://www.blueforcegear.com/vickers-sling and would run one of these http://www.laruetactical.com/qd-360-push-button-swivel-mount mounted back closer to the receiver, i liked it cause i could get away with using less sling so less fiddle factor and the quick adjust on the sling was great for making transitions from left to right hand shooting. Not sure what type of weapon system your specifically inquiring about but thats what worked well for me on my m4.

Rifle-Craft made a great tactical sling that was designed to also be used as a shooting sling. Unfortunately he decided to get out of the sling business.

Now yer talkin' my language! However, for accuracy I think a loop sling is the way to go. My groups with a loop sling are 1/4 of my bipod groups maybe due to less standard deviation.

Have you any information?

I can't find anything on his old blog and the store is closed down but I managed to dig up a link with the video.

I dont use my AR much but I bought one of these just before he closed shop just because I like his other slings so much.

His other slings (also discontinued unfortunately) can be read about here:

I just picked up this one for my heavy Remington 700 5R, which works quite well without a pack, but I use the Kifaru Gun Bearer when wearing my pack (keep the sling on for shot stabilization). The different versions of this sling (quick cuff, slip cuff, slip cuff quick release) are used by different armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

Brandon, per your question regarding current USMC marksmanship, we just stopped teaching with the loop sling this past year. We have completely transitioned to the Vicker's 2 pt (Blue Force Gear). This came after the last few years in the desert trying every damn flavor of tactical slings available, 1,2, and 3 pt. Don't get me wrong I love the Vicker's, but I believe we are doing a disservice to these young men by abandoning the old loop sling entirely. I could start another entire conversation on this... If you are looking for this capability to compliment the transport function of a sling I would suggest the above mentioned TIS quick/slip cuff slings. These fit that bill to the T and are much faster to deploy as a loop sling. The last time I checked these were still issued with the M40 systems to our STA bubba's. Best of luck in your search.
