UM load developments discounted from $1199 to $999 until Dec 31st. Payment must be received by Dec 31st. Our load developer is none other than our smallest long-bearded gnome, @Nbowlin. Nick can post many pics of the groups he usually gets at 650 yds. Here is the info I send out on load developments:

Load development cost is $1199 $999 until Dec 31st. (CheyTac’s are $1600) plus $150 return shipping and insurance unless you drop it off at the shop. Loaded ammo is approximately $3-$6 a round, depending on cartridge and components. We do give credit at our cost for customer supplied components.

If you want to go forward, here is the process:

1. We will check on components then have you send in the rifle when we have everything
2. We’ll then send you an invoice that will cover load development and return shipping

**Invoice must be paid before we can start load development**

3. Plan approximately 4-6 weeks for load development and ammo loading
4. This load development is to find one load with one bullet

5. Accuracy goals for gunsmith-built rifle with Berger or Hornady accuracy type bullets
- Three shot group .5 MOA or better
- Needs to repeat (one group at 100 then one at 650, or two at 300, or two at 500, etc)

6. Accuracy goals for any factory rifle or a gunsmith-built rifle with a non-accuracy bullet (ABs, ABLRs, Partitions, TTSXs, LRXs, etc ):
- Three shot group of around 1 MOA
- Needs to repeat (one group at 100 then one at 650, or two at 300, or two at 500, etc)

7. Sometimes factory rifles and non-accuracy bullets shoot very well, sometimes they don’t. With any rifle, we will do our best to get your rifle shooting as accurately and consistently as possible. We are not terribly interested in 100 yd groups. We are very interested in long range groups.

8. Part of our process with a new barrel is to fire 40-45 rounds before we start into serious load development. Some call this a break in, but it’s really more to let the barrel “settle down” a bit.

9. If you want to shoot suppressed, we will need the suppressor for load development.

You’ll also need to sign the liability waiver if you haven’t already: https://www.unknownmunitions.com/services/liability-waiver/

Let us know what you want to do. Also, how many rounds of loaded ammo do you think you will want?

Here is a sampling of some projects. Most all of them are on the Instantgram at sgw_idaho.

I hear that some on the forum think that the only way to get repeatable results in load development is to shoot multiple 5+ shot groups at 100 yds. That method can work--I won't argue that. When I was using that approach I did everything at 200 yds and it worked okay. However, let me explain how the way we do it works too.

To do that I have to explain that 3-shot groups at longer ranges are indeed a reliable way to find repeatable loads.

I actively compete in 1000 yd benchrest. There is no shooting discipline that shoots smaller groups at 1000 yds. A couple matches ago I shot the following 10-shot groups at 1000 yds: 5.7, 3.9, 4.2, 5.0. That is a 4.7" average for 10-shots group at 1000 yds over two days in varying conditions in a match.

I found that load by shooting 3-shot groups at 1000 yds. This load has repeated in the 1000+ rounds of this almost used up barrel. I have a whole stack of "Screamer Groups", which is under 5" at 1000 yds for 10 shots. I have a few first place finishes and several top finishes with that load. So I know with certainty that you can tune a load to very high levels of precision with 3-shot groups at long range.

Bringing that down to 650 yds and the UM Load Dev for hunting rifles.............

Nick starts by finding out what doesn't work at 100 yds. When he finds a group that looks good at 100 he finishes testing at 650 yds. 100 yd groups can lie to us. Many times we have seen where a 3 or even 5 shot group at 100, with a tight ES and SD, won't group at 650 yds.

When you think about it, what we need from a big game hunting rifle is usually one or two cold shots starting from a dead cold bore. I mean, how many times have we had to put 5 shots in an animal to cleanly kill it? I am assuming of course that we are using enough gun and making reasonably well placed shots.

By shooting three shots at 650 yds from a cold bore, we simulate what we need in most for big game hunting. We can be confident of our load, and confident that any misses are the result of not being steady or misreading the wind. By using three shot groups at 650 yds we also save barrel life.

Finally, we at Unknown Munitions guarantee our work. On those very rare occasions where a customer can't duplicate what we did, we work with them until it's resolved. Even if it means sending them a label to ship the rifle back for us to check the load again.
