What are your thoughts on the Kung Flu?

My parents are in their 80s. They still go out to get what they need despite me offering to get anything they want. My sister offered to send them the few masks they have, they refused, as they feel they have lived their lives, and my sister still has years in infront of her. I think some of it the mentality of being close to death anyway.
I had a camping-backpacking trip planned for this weekend I was gonna cancel "to do the right thing" and now I'm going. I'll still do a home to home no contact-no stop trip, but I'm gonna live my life and try to stay healthy.

Don't read the Daily Mail. Ferguson has been all over the place with everything. 0 consistency in anything he'd saying.

The national 'recommendation' that everyone mask up is coming within a week.
There aren't enough masks for healthcare workers. Not sure where the public is supposed to get them. Currently on backorder with an expected available date of mid June.

BTW, I dont drink, nor smoke nor do drugs and have been an avid distance runner for over 40yrs ;0) ... Trumps approval in the handling of this Wuhan Chinese virus has been very good... esp. considering how unprepared some states were .. Heck, Gov. Cuomo was putting money into solar farms rather than heeding reports that told him to be prepared for a pandemic and democrat politicians were telling people to go to the Chinese parade (Pelosi) and go to bars AFTER Trump banned entry from China ... it is unfortunate some attack others on here, rather than the fact of the Letter that Trump did sent to Schumer when Schumer messed up and lied to put it bluntly, it dosnt matter where the news came from in this instance, rather that it is fact that it did happen, and I'm glad Trump did it .. ...

I fear that South Dakota may well be the outlier, and many more congested areas will see numbers and rates closer to what NYC and NJ are experiencing. Here in Maryland we have several counties with over 400 positive cases, we are gaining over 300 positive cases per day as a state, and our test results are still taking 7-9 days to process. we are also way behind other areas on administering tests, for some reason we have struggled to get a decent number of test kits.

I would REALLY, REALLY like for your thoughts above to be accurate, but my fear is that the East Coast congested areas will more closely mimic NY and NJ than we will SD....

In addition, the shelter in place and social distancing isn't to stop the virus - it's to slow it down enough that the ICUs, hospitals, and healthcare professional are not overrun and wiped out. Here in MD we are starting to experience a strain on the healthcare system, and we're just getting started. I can't imagine what NY and NJ are like.

Political ranting is not a function of this forum if that's your goal you need to find a different place to post it.
If you need help keep posting it and I can help you out.

I’ve done no political posts. But I’ve read the forum rules and it doesn’t say anything about no political posts. The general discussion forum is supposed to be for anything that doesn’t have its own section so I guess I’m confused why someone can’t post something political. Doesn’t say it’s against the rules anywhere that I can find. Not being argumentative just confused.

Not sure how you punish China. Personally I wouldn't. Trust someone that has proven time and time again to be untrustworthy, that's on you.

We can move manufacturing back, and should. That can't be done overnight. It will take years. Virtually all of or medical supplies come from there. Sanction them and they shut off the medical supplies. There is plenty of market for them elsewhere currently for them not to care.

The other thing with manufacturing is the EPA. That's another conversation all in itself.

Having a discussion and ranting aren't the same. Is Information being sharing in a positive and upbeat manner?

That has already happened, yesterday in fact. N95 masks are reserved for medical workers, and the public is advised to use or make other masks or wear bandanas.

I did not see a national advisory from cdc or kung flu task force for everyone to wear masks.....I heard it would be announced within a few days.
What does 'reserved' mean?

If people have a 95 mask are you saying that they cannot wear it and have to give it to the government?

Not sure who to blame. Leaders or news media for the conflicting recommendations. I know the news folk aren't exacty specialists or scientists.

We had a mayor say to mask up yesterday when they shut the state down.

I wore a mask and gloves to grocery today. About 25-30% had masks, 40% or so had gloves.

Folks looked at me funny but eh, it's time to buckle down.

Masks might be backordered until June, but LOTS of small companies are pitching in and starting to make them to help out. This will decrease the lead time significantly imo.
