What’s your go to hunting accuracy load for 308 win?

I kills me, but I cannot reload anything that is as consistent or as accurate as Barnes 130 TTSX factory ammo. Reliably shoots .8", 3 shot groups out of a Ruger M77 RL tanger with a super thin 20" barrel, wearing just a VX2 2-7X33.

It also runs well under an inch at 50 yds in two Savage 99Fs with factory irons.

155 Scenar…if you’ve got some time, you can read how well they’ve worked by searching for “deceased via scenar”

All Hornady bullets. 16 inch Sig Cross 308.
150 BTSP @2725
150 SST @2725
168 ELD-M @2650

IMR 4064, Varget, RL 15, 8208 XBR all on hand but only using 4064

Starline brass

CCI, Federal and Remington primers. Loads are not temperamental so these don't change results enough for me to worry.

Great speeds for a short barrel!

Danwolf, any info on your 178 grain load with the 2725? What brass, powder and which 178 bullet were you shooting? Thanks

Ruger Gunsite Scout 16" .308. 46.1 grains of Varget, Federal 210M, and a 155TMK run 2600fps. I've used Sig, Federal, Hornady, and Remington brass and that load is sub moa in all of them. I can mix and match brass and it still shoots lights out.

If you’re mostly shooting 300 yards or less, the flat base 150 grain Hornady Interlock can be very accurate and cheap. Boat tail bullets can be a little pickier.

would you guys mind throwing in what brass you're using too, please? there's a pretty good variance in capacity from 1 to the next brand. thanks for all the awesome feedback, this is great.

49g Varget, 130 TTSX, CCI-200, R-P brass, COAL 2.825" (.311 MOA) I head shoot with this load
50g TAC, 130 TTSX, Fed 210m, R-P brass, COAL 2.825" (.527 MOA)
47g Varget, 155 Scenar, Fed 210m, R-P brass, COAL 2.810", (.582 MOA) I'm sill playing with this one.

Just picked up a Tikka CTR and playing with the 155 scenars. But temps here in South Louisiana are 101* during the day and I really don't feel like shooting in this damn heat but will as soon as temps drop. Seating them out much longer to see if it makes a difference as well as I picked up a brick of CCI's, so different primer than I was using before as well as different seating depth.

I’m surprised there aren’t more 175-180 gr loads on here? That class of bullet has really done well in the wind for me. Seems to retain good speed and energy out to about 600 for a do all hunting load as well. My go to has been Lapua brass, cci br2’s, 43.3 gr of Varget over 178 Eldm’s. Shooting around 2650 ish MV with a 24” barrel.

As farmcritter stated, a very common load for years was 44.0-45.0 Varget with a 175/178 @ 2650-2700 fps. Factory rifles tended to be closer to 45 gr and custom barrels closer to 44. With the 155 Scenar I'm closer to 47 gr and with the 190 Berger I'm at 43.5. AMU load at one time was 43.7 with a 185 Berger.

165 gr sierra gk bthp, 43-46 gr varget, F210, F210M, WLR, CCI BR2, CCI 450 (srp brass), win, lapua, Peterson, privi brass in too many 308's to count. All have grouped 1/2 inch or better.
