Who knew bears would be interested in Alfalfa pellets?

This black bear apparently decided he wanted to taste some alfalfa pellets from my deer/elk feeder, or maybe just see if there were any special treats inside...

The local highway crews had to remove the Alfalfa seed from the hydro-seed mixture that they sprayed along the new highway construction. The fresh alfalfa was like crack for the black bears and too many were feasting on the side of the highway.

I never would have thought they'd be interested in those. Did they have the little chunks of berries in them?

A few years ago a buddy of mine had a couple of bears that were coming into his hay barn and tearing open sacks of cattle protein cubes and eating them

Nothing in the bucket except for alfalfa pellets. Seems to work alright for the elk, no idea why the bear wanted them. Another feeder about a mile or two away got pulled down and dumped all over a few weeks ago which is why they have ratchet straps on them now.
