I sat down with Gilbert Villegas, biologist on WSMR, in my podcast to help first time hunters cover a lot of questions. Everything went perfectly for me and I killed a 36" cow in less than a hour, but that was just good fortune. Incredibly cool experience...
Crossed last fall no issues. Just check what the current regs are. I don't recall even being asked about food. Also, just in case, suppressors and handguns are a no no.
I would also add to the conversation, especially for anyone travelling a distance to get to their hunt, sat coms are cheap insurance if anything goes wrong. If you watch any survival or missing shows, you just think "that guy would be fine if he just had one." It's not a cure for stupid...
There's a few reasons.
1. I ran an InReach for several seasons, with a few different phones and it was always buggy. This made me loose confidence in it.
2. Zoleo gives you a dedicate SMS number. If you want someone to contact you, they can just text it like any other cell. There's no...
I'd add snakebite gaiters. Not for the snakes, but for everything else that can poke you out there. I had a yucca stab me and break off. Required an ER visit to remove.
I haven't parsed the draw for WY antelope yet this year, but my take so far:
Numbers are of course down in most of the state, which will push the points needed up. I used to say you could have a decent hunt every other year (1 point), but I'd push that to 2-3 now. For a good hunt (more bucks...

Just a suggestion to you all looking to take your WFA or WAFA, it is well worth your time and money to invest in the Wilderness First Responder (WFR). The increased level of skill is significant. You'll feel much more confident and prepared for wilderness emergency care.
I have 2 in jail. Both submitted 11/9/22. One was just approved today, 6/27/22: 230 days. No word on the second one. Interestingly though, I did call ATF today to check on my application and was told it wad pending. I also sent a request to my Representative on it. Curiously coincidental or not?
My buddy Charlie Jacoby runs Fieldsports in the UK, he'd be an excellent resource. I had him on my podcast last year about UK hunting. I have two others from France and Spain that'll drop soonish. But if you go west, you'll find those more alpine settings that you'll really be looking for.
Sous vide to 160. Remove and pat dry. Season with fresh cracked black pepper and salt. In medium heat cast iron melt 3tbsp salted butter, couple cloves of garlic, and a shallot. Sear on both sides and allow to rest 5 minutes before slicing. You can also do a redwine-huckleberry reduction as...
