Honestly for a decent sleep system, I'd recommend a closed cell sleeping pad with a 4+ R value, an SOL bivy, and as best of a sleeping bag as youc an afford after that.
I've probably hiked 50 miles in the snow up there, been on both the Bair Ranch and Birch Creek in conjunction with Galts and I haven't really seen much. Hard to believe there is a population problem when I have only seen maybe a herd or two on the private unless everyone else has already...
