How many arrows do you carry in your quiver Elk hunting?

5 in the quiver. 4 BH, 1 judo for grouse. Backup BH and a spare judo in the pack to replace the judo head just in case. Most arrows I’ve used on a single elk is 2. He was already down on the ground but still breathing so I lunged him at a distance of 6 feet and he expired about 5 seconds later.

    Who hunts alone?

I hunt alone with the exception of deep backcountry archery elk. It sucks hauling an elk out by yourself under the pressure of spoilage to the meat. However, turkey hunting? Alone. I’ll call for you when I’ve tagged out. Elk/deer hunting near the truck or camp? Alone. I’ll call for you when I’ve...

    Tyvek ground cloth

I’ve ditched the Tyvek and have moved to Polycro(the clear plastic window insulation heat shrink stuff) as it’s way lighter, less bulky, clear so you can see rocks underneath it when using as a footprint , surprisingly durable, readily available, easily cuts to whatever shape, and super cheap.

What's the deal with KUIU? Disappointing!!

That’s because KUIU is becoming more and more a LIFESTYLE clothing company and less and less a HUNTING clothing company.

Which diaphragm Elk call are you using?

Phelps Maverick is probably the most durable call(The reed anyway) made right now. This year I run that, Phelps pink, Amp white, amp black, RM blue w/gold plate, and RM pink estrus.

Which diaphragm Elk call are you using?

Just to slip in here regarding calls and how many. A buddy and I have a formula that we use for diaphragm mouth calls: 1 call for every 12 hours of ACTUAL IN FIELD USE. We’ve used everything for Elk(Phelps, RMC, Carlton’s) and Turkey(Woodhaven, Hooks, Goosebat) and we’ve found it pretty...

    Are you a bull hunter?

I take the first ethical shot available to me. I used to bull hunt early season and wait for a spike or cow but over the years I’ve learned to take what is presented, when it’s presented. I enjoy the hunt, especially calling, and I’ve got tons of friends who hunt and I can still go call for...
