    Lever Action Hunters

I have had many levers. Currently have a Marlin 30-30 and a 444 Marlin. Use at least one of them every year. The 444 Marlin has taken game out to 275 yards with great authority. I am considering pulling the scope off the 30-30 and installing a peep. These two have accounted for numerous...

300 WSM Recoil - Your Comparative Experience

My Savage 300 WSM is a cake walk with 180 Accubonds compared to my 444 Marlin with 265 Hornadays. It is very close to my 30-06 with 180 Partitions. Of course this is perceived recoil which we all know is different for each of us.

    .30/06 thoughts

Gave my OLD Savage 110 in 30-06 to my son. That old gun is lights out with 180 Partitions. True one ragged hole. Replaced it with a 300 WSM. Sometimes I regret that choice. Been toying with getting another 30-06. I"m getting old enough to start paring down the safe. Well, maybe not.

Tikka T3X Lite or Sako Finnlight?

What's not to love with a Sako? My Sako 75 in 270 is a joy to shoot. Have taken game at verified 400 and targets to 500 and it just flat works.

Question I can't find answer to

Thanks for all your responses. I do have several other spots I have marked to look as well. This one is my first choice. We all know that anything can happen and with boots on the ground, I might say nope. Gotta look though!I will have two scouting days before the season open so I intend to...

Question I can't find answer to

Thanks. That makes perfect sense when I think about it. And it is a rifle hunt.

Question I can't find answer to

Been a long time lurker and a short time member/contributor. I have a question I don't find an answer to. The area I hunt is, like most, pretty crowded. I accept that. I am a relatively newer elk hunter/ elk country learner. During my e scouting for the area we hunt, I found a couple of...

    Escaping CA...Tx vs Co

I live in North Central Texas. About 140 miles from Dallas. This is nothing like Dallas. I lease a ranch to hunt (17th year) for $1000 per year. Have unlimited access year round. These places are hard to find and word of mouth is the best way. Takes me about 11 hours to get to SW Colorado...

Best practices for back country hygiene, clothing, and campwear.

Agree with isu22andy above. I do use unscented wipes to cut it down a little. An old WT doe smelling you and blowing can really ruin a hunt.

    Asthma in the backcountry

I have allergy induced asthma. I always have an inhaler in the hip belt pocket of my pack, as well as one in my truck. I have found in my very limited experience that taking an extra day to acclimate (I live at 950 feet) makes a ton of difference. I also go slower than the super athletes...
