Outfitter for cow elk hunt in oregon

Cody Cole is the man. And his dad John Cole both crush it. I’ve been up twice with buddies and we’re combined 4/4. Super knowledgeable guy and he lives the life. I’m headed up in November again for a bull hunt and can’t recommend these guys enough.

    Help with ammo

It’s in Oregon so I can use real ammo. Both shoot better than my skill level. I’m just worried about the lighter projectile vs poorly expanding copper.

    Help with ammo

I'm headed for a cow elk hunt in a few weeks with my .300wsm and am having a hard time finding ammo here in CA. I've found some boxes of Winchester Deer Season XP but it's only 150 grain and says it's designed for whitetail. I also found some Hornady 180 grain but it's the copper garbage...

Tickets are purchased. Costs are sunk. Worth considering next time.

    Getting 2 Cow Elk Home

Maybe a rookie question, but if we're driving why would we want to expedite processing? Why not just take off from the hunt after hanging overnight and process it down in LA? Should stay cold enough if it's in the car and frozen solid, right?

    Getting 2 Cow Elk Home

Looking at renting a car but the 14 hr drive is rough plus we already got first class tix since they weren't much more expensive and thinking we could use the 2 free return trip bags each to our advantage. Renting a car is about $175 plus $250 in gas so we're at $425 or so.

    Getting 2 Cow Elk Home

Great option, but assuming each elk has about 170lbs of meat even boned out we will have around 350lbs of meat or 7 of those boxes. We will prob have a rifle case and duffle with our gear so that's 9 checked bags total between the 2 of us. That's going to be about $500 extra plus the boxes...

I totally agree, just not sure my outfitter will debone for me. I'll look into that.

    Getting 2 Cow Elk Home

My buddy and I are going on a cow elk hunt in Feb in Eastern Oregon and most likely will be bringing two elk home to So. Cal. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get our meat home. We're flying into Boise and then renting a pickup and driving to the outfitter so we can transport the meat...

Second rifle to buy after .300wsm

I love the logic of that, but it’s less fun for me. Half the fun is researching and finding another great rifle. I’ve got a Christensen ridgeline 300wsm (love it!) and would prob get another similar price point or maybe a bit less for the smaller one. I might simplify the scope a bit too and...

Second rifle to buy after .300wsm

Interesting option. What’s the biggest game you’d shoot at with the 6 cm? I’d still want something I could take a pig or axis deer with. It wouldn’t be a pure kiddo rifle, I’m definitely selfish enough to get one too nice for a kid so that it will be my second rifle to fill in the blanks with.

Second rifle to buy after .300wsm

I do have a Tavor which shoots 5.56 and a .22 bolt action so they can definitely work up to the hunting rifle. At what age would you think a 6.5 creed wouldn’t be too much for a kiddo?

Second rifle to buy after .300wsm

I’ve been looking at 7mm-08 also, but I unfortunately live in kalifornia and it’s near impossible to find most ammo. I don’t reload so I need something from the shelf. Have you had any trouble finding ammo?

Second rifle to buy after .300wsm

I’ve already got a .300wsm that I use for elk hunting but want a second, lower recoil rifle for smaller game. It would also be a good option to teach my kids to shoot in a few years and they could hunt with it. Is a 6.5 creed the best option, or is there something else to go with? I realize...
