Hermosa Creek Trail. Pretty easy walk, good access, beautiful scenery, good campsites along the creek, check the regulations for fishing in there. Start at Hermosa Creek park on PR578, the access is through the Purgatory Ski resort.
After trying many other methods of recovery for severely herniated discs, including yoga, injections, chiro, etc, I had the surgery on L4-L5, L5-S1 in 2015. It worked like a charm. Recovery was rough and it was much more painful when I came to than I was expecting. Take the recovery very slow...
If you still support REI because you think that they support public lands, keep in mind that Vista subsidiaries Camp Chef, Federal and Savage are corporate sponsors of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers.
I'd like to see some evidence of antlered animals eating antlers. Has anyone ever witnessed anything eating sheds. You can clearly see where rodents chew on them when you pick up an old set and dogs love to chew on them but I have my doubts about how much of a nutrient source sheds are to...
Considering the time and money already invested in hunting, I would say an extra $150 to save time and make sure you are spending your money efficiently is worth it. The information may be able to be found elsewhere but having it all in one location allows me to spend less time researching the...
Ebay is usually the best place to find them but you have to be careful because of all the knock offs, if you have any military surplus stores in your area they will sometimes have them. Look for the military clothing tag inside to be sure it is actually a military clothing item and not Chinese...
If you can find the new rain gear in the OCP pattern, it is pretty good stuff. The Litefighter 1 man tent is a good shelter. The woobie and field jacket liners are also pretty hard to beat. After 15 years in, that is really all of the 'standard issue' stuff that I would use.
It really depends on the area, and style of hunt. Where I have been in Colorado seemed pretty easy but where I have been in Idaho breaks me off. You can't be in too good of shape and the better shape you are in will definitely improve your hunt.
Yes and No to all questions. Based on pressure and time of year all of these questions have different answers. They are less weary than whitetail generally but at those times they are surrounded by cows who are very weary. I think the big difference is that an elk will not go completely...
I don't want to sound hateful but I've been researching this hunt for a while and all of these questions are easily answered with minimal research on AZFG, google earth and weather underground.
Depredation on agriculture and competition with livestock is a big one. Some areas are managed for trophy quality, some for opportunity. Some units have restrictive terrain that deters a lot of hunters from participating beyond road hunting and very low success rates for the hunters that do...
You should do some hard and heavy hiking with a cheap pack first then get one of the brands mentioned so you can truly appreciate the high end packs. Wearing heavy packs is never comfortable but a cheap pack can make it substantially more miserable.
Don't overthink it too much both of those rifles will exceed your needs. As far as the Tikka needing upgrades, I would say "need' is a strong word. Out of the box it is a shooter and designed very well. Me personally, I would go with the Tikka, run it ragged and tweak it as necessary, if necessary.
Hunted mule deer in there the entire 2nd season. It was really warm and nothing was moving but I did see several bulls at the trailhead on the northside of the Hermosa wilderness. I was hunting in the wilderness area and talked to a few other hunters and none of us had seen any elk in there down...
I've driven to Idaho for the last two years for archery elk and honestly, if it wasn't for having a very good friend from the military there I wouldn't even bother with the drive. There aren't that many elk to be had and the ones that are left are small and barely respond to calling due to the...
