Check out this article I wrote up last year for our website. It talks about elk activity in regards to moon phase and temperature. The results probably won't surpise most, but it is a reaffirmation of what many hunters already know about elk behavior.

I am planning on purchasing the Goal Zero Nomad 13.5 for use on our backcountry Bob Marshall trip this fall. Hopefully, it will work well recharging my FX-1000, Go Pro, and HV30 batteries. They look promising!
I've used the Tarptent Moment a bit and plan to use it a lot more this year. As others have stated, single wall tents are prone to condensation particularly in areas like the Pac. NW, where I hunt. I am a smaller guy 5'7" so I don't have a lot of issues not touching the walls, sitting up, and...
Meat! This is the only time I've been involved in baiting in a bear. Per WDFW special permit, we were unable to use stuff like jelly, mollasses, donuts, grease, etc..

Nice work, Rebecca! The wife and I watched this hunt the other day. Hard work, and in this case, a little bravery, went a long ways towards bagging that bear.
Nice pics, guys! VANDAL, looks like you were in the debut edition of Elk Hunter. Looks like your goats and gear anyhow. I talked to the guy that I got my two experienced goats from and he likes to stake them out on a tether individually during the day (in a diff. spot each day so they have more...
I have a few goats that I plan on packing with (2 are pretty well trained) this year. I'd like to know others experiences as well. I can see them being used to get into areas further and faster than if I were to just go by myself. Maybe not into areas I supposed, but out. I don't think I'd like...
Sounds like the Oracle will suit you perfect. Let us know how it works out. I was just making sure you didn't overlook the PreCip and you obviously did not.
It looks like the Oracle only comes in Forest/Fatigue and the Forest color looks near neon green to me. Quite bright. Deal breaker for me.
I have used the Marmot PreCip for a season and since have used it at work. Seems to work real well. Curious why you aren't looking at the PreCip? Durability maybe? The PreCip is pretty lightweight. Stay out of the blackberries. I haven't seen the Oracle in person, but the PreCip is half the...
I'm gettin' pumped just like the rest of you guys. If you need something to hold you over until the opener, here is a couple hunts from Primetime Outdoors' 2011 spring turkey season. It's rather lengthy, but if you have some time watch some gobblers hit the dirt! Keep 'em gobbling...
Kryptek guy, here. Any pant I get in the future will have knee pads. Who would've thought a thin piece of foam would be so useful. Just being able to kneel on sharp rocks for an extended period is a huge deal to me.
Currently using a Tarptent Moment, but a partner has raised concerns under how it will hold up to tough weather (heavy rain, snow, etc..).
Do you guys think your setups will allow you to hunt in 3.5/4 seasons? Keep knocking the snow off every morning?
aggieland, unless you are receiving PMs, I think that folks may be hinting that they are not going to give you their hot spots in Colorado. At least not on an open forum anyway. As was stated earlier, you can draw nearly any archery unit in the state with 4 pts. Evan's last post tells me that he...
