I don’t see the need for these, as I’ve always been able to control the temp with the dampers on the front. My home wood stove does not have one; and the fire goes out on my titanium stove if I close both dampers. Am I missing something?

I’m not much for ice fishing; some of these look like they’d make a good mobile truck camp. Easy to set up, insulated, tall enough to stand up... Any input?

Anyone ditch their spotter and just use a their 25-30 power rifle scope instead? I realize it's not going to be as good as a big spotter, but I imagine it wouldn't give up much to a compact spotter? Figure I could save 6 lbs not carrying a spotter and tripod.
Been wanting to return to the look and feel of a wood stock in the $800 - $1500 range, and kind of like the SS barrel look. Still want it to be accurate (~1 moa), but also pretty, but not so pretty I won't use - 300 Win Mag or 300 wsm. Any opinions?
Here's what I'm looking at from my research...
As the season nears, I find it tough to take days off from cardio - I always take a few days off before the start of a hunt, & I stop lifting weights on my legs a few weeks out. For you fitness gurus, am I actually hindering myself by not taking days off? If so, how many days a week should my...
Can someone explain why Dall Sheep hunts cost $17K plus, even in the units where it's walk in? I realize sheep guides are probably the most experienced/well paid, insurance, charter costs (~$2K) and show/advertising costs....I'm just not seeing the math still, as most of the tags are OTC in AK...
Starting to research an outfitter for Kyrgyzstan or possibly Tajikistan in 2019. Would appreciate feedback from anyone whose done one of these hunts. Also would really appreciate what outfits/booking companies to avoid. Please PM if you don't feel comfortable posting negative feedback on the...
I believe in the past one could change hunt choices after the application deadline in WY; is this still the case and how long has it been available in past years?
How I apply depends on how I fare in CO. Thanks
Hunted MT hard last week; cold temps and snow. I know it's early for the rut, but all the deer I glassed we're bedded up at sunrise & stayed all day, with no wind half the time. I haven't hunted muley's late very many times, was expecting the does to be up and feeding with lows below 0 and highs...
Thinking about a different setup with 2 packs, a load hauler (Kifaru) and a daypack (MR Scapegoat). I'd bring all my camp stuff & food in a large stuff sack and then hunt with the daypack. Gotten to the age/knees where I usually haul a deer out in two trips vs. one, at least until I get it to...
Bought these pants several months back and they're a tad tight on me (thought I was going to lose more weight). These are the new style with the hip vents. Never worn except for trying them on (still in plastic). $115 to you door (Paypal only).
Pack is wolf grey in good condition - medium use for one year (~20 days), and has packed out 2 animals. I don't see any blood stains, but I'm color blind. Pack had additional female buckles added by Kifaru so the collar can become a roll lid like the tahr pack. Frame not included.
Spotting...
Been putting in for goats for a decade in the lower 48 w/o any luck. Debating on putting in for the nanny tags since the odds are usually better. The experience is more important to me than the horn size. I've heard that the CO nannies have little fear of people with all the backpackers...
Advantage or disadvantage for spotting game? Being color blind, I find it situational, some types of terrain the animals just seem to pop out, Other terrains, I seem to have trouble compared to non-color blinded friends.
These boots are in very good condition with approximately 50 miles of use (see pics). The leather does have some normal dirt/scuff marks, sole and rand have no issues. They are an excellent boot, just a tad narrow for me. They are a very stiff mountain boot for a narrow or low volume foot.
$200...
About to order a pair of these, and the website says to order a 1/2 size up? I've been wearing the Lowa Tibets in the same size as my normal shoes. Also, I heard the Bighorns are wider than the Tibets - are they significantly wider? Reason I'm going with the Bighorns over the Tibets is the...
For all you math gurus, it's been a long time since I took statistics:
Say you put in for 5 tags in a given year, with a 5% chance of drawing each individual tag - how would you calculate the odds of drawing any of those tags?
My "easy" button says to sum them up (25%), though I don't think this...
I've been using this tent for 4 years and probably over 100 nights; this tent is probably the best piece of gear I've bought in the past 10 years, and I buy way too much crap. I like to use trekking poles when hiking in and out, but not while actually hunting. I've also used tree limbs for the...
Leaving on my unlimited hunt tomorrow and we received ~6" of snow. I'm thinking the microspikes for climbing steep boulder/shale/deadfall (~30 degree slopes) & since it's wet snow vs. ice? Am I wrong in thinking the crampons would not give as much traction on the boulders? Microspikes are also a...
