    Vacuum bags vs butcher paper

I use freezer paper and tan masking tape instead of freezer tape. Had some 3.5 yr old elk steak and grind found in friend's freezer that is still good! Never wanted a vac-seal setup : high cost and low performance and takes up storage space.

Antlerless Hunting - Cows w/ calves, Does w/ fawns...

Shot a whitetail doe a long time ago that had a fawn with her I did not see... as others have shared it was awful having that thing hanging around bleating while I cut up mama. I would make sure there is no baby around if I take a female again. Shot a calf elk- it was delicious and I would do it...

    Hot Sauce Recommendation?

Boulder hot sauce: smoky seranno is really tasty without being too hot. Horsetooth hot sauce Ft Collins, CO has Reuben's red.. both of which I love without getting too hot. Yellowbird is great: a little hotter with the habenero. Lots of good sauce out there

    Mid-size SUV or wagon options

Had 03 outback 3L 6cyl that was awesome. Got rid of it at 300k miles for 07 outback 2.5 L turbo. This car was the worst car I ever owned, constant problems but it did keep going and going. Scared me off subaru though. Replaced with 2012 toy highlander. Hit 3 elk after having only 2 months! Took...

    Tundra front end work

3 elk just did some front end work on my highlander! I was going so slow on the snowpacked road the airbags didn't deploy. Thank God. First one bounced off front to drivers side- clear. Second one -same. Third bashed into the passenger side front panel. No cell service and single digit temps- I...

How rare is a 200 inch mule deer

I'm not seeing 200" in a lot of these pics... In my 20 years of fascination with big mulies I have seen 4 or 5. One was a nontypical in town of Boulder in 2005, one on private land in September 2019 outside of Boulder. One I killed in mz season 2018. One in a western slope neighborhood in...

    Best Boots for Western Hunting?

I like Lowa and Hanwag. Scarpa do not fit my feet at all. I ordered some Meindl boots from cabelas but liked Hanwags better so I sent Meindls back, but I think they were nice. I like the Hoffman boots' looks... You will just have to try a bunch of them to see what your feet like.

Best overall freeze dried food brands? Ty

I second the Peak coconut chicken curry. Love it! But the peak beef stroganoff was gross. The beef had a weird taste and I burped it for hours afterward. The last meal before leaving I tried it again to see if it was just me the first time. It was gross then also. I like Mtn House biscuits and...

    Wilderness and mental health

Any update BeastOTT? Your original question prompted me.... I just heard a ketamine therapist describe her work and the difference between ketamine and psilocybin. She stressed that ketamine leads one to examine one's own thoughts VS. Psilocybin 's "big picture" outlook. While psilocybin in a...

Chasing Big Muleys and Mental Endurance

Seeing a big one or multiple big ones while scouting (when you do not have the tag in hand, no pressure to do something RIGHT NOW) was a big stepping stone in my quest to kill big bucks. You learn alot while sitting and watching instead of blasting after him or stressing /focusing on how to...

    Football fans???

Jags fan here too Overland. Can't figure out the collapse at end of season, other than TL' s injuries. Hope they get better but Stroud in the division is going to hurt for awhile! I love the nfl and can't hate on the chiefs' dominance lately. Looking forward to a good super bowl . Also...
