We definitely had to walk through some snow (3-4") when we got up there and the visibility was good. We were surprised to see the deer still bedded down for a while in the morning after a stormy night. Early in the afternoon, it started snowing and visibility got bad. We actually did see quite a...
I'm finally getting out for late season archery elk this weekend and my husband still has his mule deer tag. Either sex for both tags. It's looking like it'll be snowing (90% chance) at the elevation we'll be at. Assuming the snow level allows us to even walk the trail, we plan on staying at...
I used to drink Starbucks instant coffee until I found the Darktimber Coffee ascent packs. I was surprised by how good they tasted for being basically coffee grounds in a tea bag. I've been wanting to try the Black Rifle coffee as well. I use my MSR Pocket Rocket 2 and a cheap Stanley cup.
That's a good point. I usually just carry gauze and some tape, which has worked when I've needed it. Most of my stupid slip-ups are on my hands while I'm cleaning my kill. Being miles away from a road makes me think of the worst case scenario though.
Anyone carry or have had to use a ZipStitch? Was thinking of buying one or two for my first aid kit. They're expensive, but would be nice to have in the extreme situation that I, or someone else, has an accident worse than a surface scratch.
I haven't used many other apps, but I like Castbox because it's easy to look for different topics. I go back and forth on whether to like Joe Rogan or not, but I enjoy listening to his guests who are hunters.
I carry multiple knives with me hunting, but I got to use my new Outdoor Edge Razor-Pro this year on my mule deer that I had to quarter and it zips through the hide pretty easily. The knife and replaceable blades are pretty inexpensive. I do love my Benchmade knife too though, but I have to...
If you're interested in Idaho hunts, the Idaho Fish and Game site has an awesome hunt planner that shows maps of each unit and zone. I use that plus satellite maps to scout areas before scouting in person. Just need to be careful with private land now that landowners do not have to post, so use...
I experience this a lot too. I typically don't wear orange except when I'm in an area with a lot of people. I guess not everyone has binos so they use their rifle scope? I like to assume their rifles aren't loaded when I see them pointing them at me, but we all know that's not always true...
I have the First Lite Alturas pants and the Kiln hoody and love them. The stretch in the pants is so comfortable to hike in. Even though they don't have a specific women's line, I know a lot of women who also wear Pnuma. I just bought their rain gear and the smallest sizes are just a tad bit big...
I also process my own starting after splitting up the different muscle groups. I do a lot of burger and sausage. Just started using casings with a Cabela's bratwurst and Italian kit last year. I want to do pepperoni and summer sausage eventually. Anyone have experience with the Cabela's kits or...
Sorry, not trying to spam at all. Gear and hunt training is something I'm really passionate about and there are a lot of similar threads on here. First time on these forums and starting out where I want to chime in. I see what you mean though.
I use "The MULE" at ONUS Training. It's leak-proof, made to go in your hunting pack, easy to adjust the weight as needed, and isn't hard on your pack. I was sick of getting creative with odd objects to get the weight I wanted. They have a max of 100lb bag and a smaller max of 50lbs.
Living in a state (Idaho) and town with three major pack manufacturers right here, I've tried a number of packs and by far the most comfortable with a lot of weight is BC Guide Gear. Now my husband and I own three of their frames and four of their packs. The packs are interchangeable on the Grip...
